In the next few months im planning to get a fender mexican jazz bass, but at my friends shop its closing down and an upright bass i've been looking at is going to be round 300-400 pounds.I've been playing for about 3-4 years and i dnt have a clue to play an upright.
Unfortantly i cnt get both so i was just wondering what you would go for in my situation?

Well the mexi jazz!?! Why get an upright if you don't know how to play one? In my experience of playing them compared to a normal bass they're pretty boring. Plus with the money left over from the mexi you could do some upgrades on it...:thumb:

To learn.
Well it depends on which would be more of a use to you. if your in a band or have a crappy bass, get the jazz. But if you have a good bass already play the hell out of the upright and see if you like it.
i love uprights

You can get a MIM Jazz anytime for the next 100 years, you don't get many chances to get a low cost upright.

^^Not if I beat you to it.
But seriously to back up my claim, if you want to actually play bass for a living, learning upright is a huge deal.

You have a Cirrus, you dont need another electric bass.
Go for the upright.
Another vote for upright.

My vote goes to an upright..
AND A TEACHER. It's not an easy instrument to learn. Just like you can't really learn yourself to play trumpet.
But it only goes to upright if you already have a nice electric bass :p
