So, I've been peeking a little bit at those "Gripmaster" thingies and I can't make up my mind... Are they pieces of s.h.i.t or do they really strengthen your fingers?

Any of you guys had any experience with one? Thanks a lot....

Endurance is much more important than strength. If you get one make sure it's the lightest model (strength of the springs), and be careful not to end up injuring yourself with the thing.

Nothing beats hours and hours of practice...

Okay... But are they worth it?
I have fairly small weak hands hands, so could it be helpful to me?

You're quite right, but I'm only considering purchasing one as a suplement to my bass playing..

I have one that I got for X-mas, I like it. Just don't hurt yourself.

They're great when you're just idling with no bass around.

If you use the wrong technique or use it to long or have too much resistance, you can kind of, like pull muscles in you hand. Or just hurt your wrist from the repetitive movement. Just good to be careful.

If you're walking somewhere, on a bus, etc., great way to build endurance and finger strength.

Of course, playing the instrument itself is much better when it's available.

But when not, it's great.

gripmasters work on your crushing grip of your hand...the strength like that of giving a hard handshake.

for bass you need endurance and precision, which only practive can get you.

repetitive strain injury

i have one, which i keep in my coat pocket... they are great for messing with while waiting for buses, friends etc... they build up muscle strength and endurance in your hand. which means you can play for longer and when your muscles are tired they will usually recover with greater speed...

if you have a particularly weak little finger, they help you build up the strength needed. i'd recommend one...

I have one, and its a brilliant supplement to playing. Like others have said, don't strain yourself..
The way i see it is, that seeing the Gripmaster increases your crushing power, it will help you fret the strings more easily and without your hand/fingers locking up, and since the Gripmaster gives a lot more resistance than the strings themselves, the Gripmaster will naturally do more for you than just practising.

That said, do NOT substitute practising for the Gripmaster, since actual practising WILL give you more speed and presicion than just using the Gripmaster, that just trains your strength/stamina

Yeah practise, don't waste your money on one of them. Save and buy another instrument or another bass.

They're really not expensive... at least not in Denmark

Always wondered though.
