So my fmily wants me to build them a new computer, and I've never done it before, so I want to verify I've put together stuff that is all compatible and also that I'm not missing any components I'd need. I don't know a huge amount about it unfortunately.
So here's what I'm getting:
DVD Burner (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16827152059)
Tower (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16811144151)
Hard Drive (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822136003)
Monitor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16824014090)
Motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813131524)
Video Card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814130271)
Sound Card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16829102178)
Power Supply (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817104953)
RAM (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820145575)
CPU (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819103546)
It'll be running Windows XP Home Edition (unless we should really get Pro, let me know) and I'll be stealing the floppy drive, 2 CDRW/DVD drives and a hard drive from the old computer. Am I missing anything? Do I need more fans/cooling?
Any help is much appreciated :)

i don't know about that power supply, you might want a better brand name and a little more power from that supply, especially on the 12V rails.
EDIT: oh, and I got the same motherboard you're getting and it was DOA. I've had to return it twice and i'm waiting to get it back. I'm not saying that you'll have the same luck, but you never know :p
and I would put in a little extra for a seagate hard drive just for the 5-year warranty, but that's just me.

What he said, everything else looks good, although I am a little behind on the V/cards and Athlons arnt my strong point.
Do you really need the sound card? I personally wouldnt bother, but up to personal preference I guess. Fans are fine.
From what I can see at a glance, Vaya por ella!

All looks good. Don't be cheap with the PS, as someone has already mentioned, though. Although price is of no issue, quality is. And that one looks like it has some great reviews. But 400W might be low, what with the vid and sound card and whatever else you might add later.
Also I would look into these vid cards for just a little bit more. They just came out, and I believe they are out benchmarking the 6800's pretty handily. Although you may want to check on that.

Hey, Vince is back!
I was going to get that CPU you're getting, but the price keeps going up dammit. It's gone up $5 since I last checked. I remember it being just under $400 when I first looked at it. :(
Nice other wise. You got a better deal on the RAM than I did. And like they said above, that PSU might not be enough.
Oh yeah, nice case.

I saw that. It's pretty neat. I bought one of those Building a PC for Dummies books for my first build also. Turned out I really didn't need it since building a PC is simple, but it does help with understanding.

Man, I'm still running a 200w PSU. That's with a CDRW drive, floppy drive, PCI soundcard, modem, and a 64mb AGP GeForce 4 vidcard. I'm always afraid it's gonna blow up. :(
Do PSU fit in pretty much any case?

Build up, and check the price (it's canadian)

normal PSUs won't fit the "slimline" or "mini" cases that a lot of manufacturers use. if your case is normal sized, then the PSU should fit.

Yeah, mines a micro atx and its a b*tch to replace, or even do anything for that matter.
EVERYONE STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!

What about that vid card everyone? Are the 7600GT links I posted above for better cards and deals right now. For around $35 - $40 more?
I'd like to know myself. In case an AGP model comes out.
EDIT: That price difference is after rebate on the 6800 he is considering...

Vince, my shuffle still isn't reading in the USB drive, and I restarted it five times, any other ideas on how to get it working? I think the computer crashing last night caused a surge in it.
