You can easily imitate it using your kit, ride bell + stick acorn = opeing sound, edges of toms = bongos, swishy hi-hats = shaker etc.

Percussion in the intro of Eulogy.
Some clave sticks, 2 types (the accented click is slightly different), several small bells, there's a few ride cymbal notes about, there's an electronic synthy thing, also there is a shaker loop, tabla is the small percussive drum towards the end of the intro.

I always thought the clicking at the beginning was adam picking his strings at the top of the guitar head. That's how I do it and it sounds almost the exact same.

The clicking sound is adam at the strings on the headstock. Danny plays with his snare turned off often during the verses of a few of their songs, and i think this is one of them.

That is perhaps how it's played live. However on the album, the clicking is very obviously some percussion element.
The sharp attack, hard resonance and absolutely no sign of any lingering note is a dead give away.

Hey Josiah I got a ? for ya... I can't figure it out, when danny comes in with the snare after the intro and into the first verse to Eulogy, every other snare hit (the 2nd and 4th snare hit and so on) are different...is he just cracking the rim with his stick as he hits the snare???...they sound higher pitched than say the 1st and 3rd hit. When I saw him live I know he alternates snare hits from left hand to right hand during that part and I he has his snares off. He does the same thing during the second verse except he has the snares on.

Interesting.. as I'm listening closely to it now. I think it could just be slight variences from either switching hands, or just naturally. There's 1 or 2 hits that are distinctly different and then slight fluxuations throughout. It coul dbe perhaps the huge openness of the intro that is letting those things be heard more. I notice it throughout the song actually.
Going into the 2nd verse, for instance, the 1st and 2nd snare hits are different and coming out of the fill to kick off the vocals the following backbeat is very weak.
*shrug*
kinda it picking, but it's there no doubt. I don't think it's intentional.

hmm, live the shaker isn't a loop. Hes playing that with his right hand. the loop is that clave at the very beginning. What I can't figure out is if he used a loop machine on the album version (meaning he played it, recorded it live as he recorded the song), because on the album version, after some measures, that click sounds doubled like he was playing it manually to get the tempo, then hit record on the loop machine, and recorded the loop twice, but didnt get it perfect because you can hear a slight phase in the loop.
There is a live version of eulogy (old school, with paul on bass) that I found on Limewire and it basically shows danny playing through the beginning. the clave starts out, its grainy but I don't see him moving at all,so I think the clave thing is a pre-recorded loop, the first thing he actually starts to play is the perc hit on every third beat with his left hand, with bells on his right, then the shaker and a downbeat perc hit with his right and that second clave with his left, then switched to the percussion with his left, then going into that insane alternating left/right snare thing, and you can hear the difference in the hits like the recorded version. im not a drummer, but wouldn't hitting closer to the edge of the snare as opposed to the center change the pitch and and resonance a tad?

I always noticed the strength of the snare notes in the verses too. I just think he did that intentionally to give it more of a feel. It's different to most standard even snare hits. But i might be wrong.
