I'm thinking about dropping a load of cash for a quality snare. I thought I would make yet another of our much beloved "what should I buy" type threads.

I want something more deep, throaty, wet.(oh, yeah baby)
I have snares that are fine for pop, latin, funk, rock. i'm looking for something a little more full spectrum for a traditional jazz sound, which would probably also cover a fat rock sound. More concerned with the jazz sound though.

I'm looking at a 14x6" or similiar depths.

I have my eye on and am considering the following canadates.

Yamaha Elvin Jones sig.
Craviotto or DW/Craviotto solid
Mapex Black panther
Mapex Orion Snares
Spaun stave snares

Shoot me some opinions, or other canadates.
Thanks.

14x6.5 Yamaha Manu Katche Signature

If you can find one to audition, you'll probably go home with it. I like it significantly more than my 14x7 DW EDGE, which cost $300 more. Consider it.
