All I really want to know is if Danny plays the triplet on the hihat with one hand or two hands. I'm in a new band and were playing it, on the electronic set and sounded fine but not really sure how it will sound on a regular pair of hats and I want to know how he does it just so I can do it more authentically

are you talking about the opening lick?
cause I use two hands... and it sounds like he is also.
Some people may do it the other way, but it feels correct to play it with 2 hands.

lol I know I know, this one is good, its my friend Riches, he was telling me to jam with them ever since I went to greece. I hurt my foot yesterday and I was barely able to walk before. I could barely play the bass drum but I managed to play just some quaters for a while and by the time I finished my foot healed up. Looks like drumming is a healing mechanism as well as an artistic output.

On a different note your right, I play with too many bands.

Yeah two hands feels weird but right, hard to explain. I recorded us playing schism for a bit, it was tight to begin with but I stopped focusing and kinda messed it up. Then I almost got back on on the chorus but I forgot what happened. If I get the recording I'll put it up.

If I focus too much, on this song especially, I mess up. I just let it flow and it comes out right for me.

But I find it really hard to play with one hand and keep it solid. It doesnt flow as much.

I accually used to practice something that is exactly what schism is. Really good exersise for triple stroke roll, might tab it later because its pretty complicated. Or I'll put audio if possible.

I've seen him play it live a few times and he plays the triplet RLL the rest of the HH is just with R...he uses his left hand on the 2 and 3 of the triplet.

Sounds the most logical. I don't get what you mean by the 2 and 3 of the triplet, but I'm assuming you mean the trip and let part not the downbeat.

Hmm....1 handed would be tough to play cleanly and somewhat of a waste of effort. Why don't you just watch him play it?

Not true at all, if you do a bounce snap thing its very easy, but I'm asking because I haven't had a chance to play it on an acoustic set so I'm not sure how good it would sound. Either way I'm gonna play it 2 hands because it will sound more authentic.

Sounds like the most convenient way to play it as well. When he accents the fourth stroke (Rll R) with a crash, splash or bell, it'd be akward to play it with your left hand if all your gear is to your right (such as if you played it RlrL).

you could play RRL R then. and I'd like that version better, too. but that's just because of my right hand. you could also play LRLR and play open handed all the way through.
and Ted, you posted the wrong vid: http://www.dannycarey.org/cyberclinictwo.html
doesn't looks like RLL R to me though. looks rather like a single stroke roll to me, as well. if you look at the video, the first splash is hit by his right hand, the second by his left, isn't it?
he probably switches up the sticking all the way through the song to hit every cymbal he wants to.

In that vid it kind of looks like he is playing the RLL R way of doing it. That's just what i'm seeing though, I could be wrong.
