I was just curious as to what kind of cymbal finishes you guys have. Please check off all that apply to you. If you have a natural and a brilliant finished crash, select both.

Thanks.

does it really make much of a difference, other than aesthetics?

I think I heard brilliant were actually lower in pitch, is that true?

Oh, and all traditional btw.

Brilliant cymbals are supposed to be brighter than traditional if you keep them fairly clean.

Haha it happens. I just don't get rid of any and buy more.. so it builds. Don't matter to me, I stopped caring long ago.

So long as it's clean and sounds great... I'll hit it.

i dont really clean my brilliant cymbals at all. I just give em a quick wipe after play to get the stick marks off and dust them off when i dont play my kit for a while (i usually take breaks from my kit and play practice pad for about 3 weeks). I havent done any real cleaning to them.

That's a good thing. I'd love to have more cymbals... Not necessarily all on my kit but having some to the side that you can take and leave somewhere like a studio, put on a second kit or just switch up would be cool  It's just more voices for you to speak with...

Trad everything although I do have a few brilliants.

I'll use a strong cleaner when I first get them to get the logos off... Then from there on it's dusting and occasinaly a soap and water cleaning.

I've been thinking about doing that also. One day i was looking at a drumset, and i started thinking about every stupid part (the pedals, the heads, the shells, the stands, the cymbals) of it has advertising all over them. it's so much more advertising that other intruments have, it's accumulative, and kind of stupid after awhile.

amen

Cleaning cymbals is such a waste of human effort,.. and for what? I don't even like the way they look.

Exclusively traditional. Looks fantastic, sounds fantastic, doesn't look dirty and hideous, and shines under stage lights anyway.

True, although I've stopped cleaning my B8 ride because I prefer the dirtier sound as opposed to the brighter sound once it's cleaned...

Brilliants only look dirty when not cleaned. Hideous, well that's your opinion :p I've found that natural cymbals do shine anyways. Not as much as brilliant, mind you, but like you said, they do shine.

I've found it difficult not to spend the money I have (saving, will most likely buy a new kit). I'm down to one last pair of sticks and one pair of souvenir sticks I got in Florida

Luckily, if I really feel cheap, I can just go up to my drawer of broken/chipped sticks and pick out the better ones :smash:

Nope. And it's likely to stay that way for some time. It's annoying having too little money. And it's not like I'm poor, it's that I, personally, don't have much money. Technically I'm probably middle class.

Oh yes, I'd hit that!

I seem to have a thing for bright sounding 18" cymbals. Ideally, I'd have an HHX Evo, a Vault and Sig Full Crash, all 18"

No, never an AAXplosion. Don't think there's ever been one near me. Might just not have noticed it if I was looking for something else though.
