My pearl throne is knackered and needs binning. It's served me well for many years so I've no complaints. The newest pearls which are practically identical have 'pearl speed' printed around the seat, regular pipe adjustment throne.
This is what I want. A screw rod throne where you spin the seat for adjusting height, and I'd prefer the seat to be quite thin like my old pearl ( I guess about 3 or 4 inches depth), I'm not too keen on the deep seats for some reason. And it has to be comfortable. What should I be looking at? Oh, and not too expensive. I checked out a stagg one today for £35, it was screw rod and had a deep seat. But I didn't find it comfortable, it felt hard and a bit lumpy. And being stagg, I wouldn't trust it to last for very long. I'm happy to pay around £70. And I don't want thrones with a backrest, they'd make me too lazy. I'm thinking maybe I should try this yammy?

Look at the DW5100 and 5120, both cheapish and good.

Hey chris, that 5100 looks sweet, and I like the rolled off edges of the seat.
http://www.explorersdrums.com/product3684.html
I'm sure that would make it more comfortable around the top of the thighs. Seems to be $99 everywhere which would be cheap enough in £. Do you know who sells it in the UK? The 5120 is a tractor style seat and appears to be around $199 which would be fairly expensive so I'm not interested in that one.

Hmm, since it's much closer for me to get to wembley than drumwright, what do you think of the tama first chair? Same price as the DW5120.

I also like the look of the bigdog one here which Laney has:

So is the tama, the bigdog and the DW5120 all as comfy as each other and all about the same size seat?

Wembley drum centre is closed sundays, but I'm gonna try and get to drumwright tomorrow, it's open 12pm to 4pm sundays, and they do have a huge selection of thrones. so I'm gonna try them all up to £100.:)

Ok, I've narrowed my search down to 2 thrones. Didn't manage to get to drumwright yesterday.
There are 2 shops near to me, one of which has the bigdog F005 pro saddle vinyl seat for £89 and the other has the Tama 1st chair HD530C with cloth covering for £99. ( The 530 PVC covered seat is out of my price range at £134 ). I'd prefer vinyl top I think for..well, whatever reason, but I reckon vinyl would feel better.
I've heard good things about both. However, I've also heard a couple of people say on a different forum that the bigdog seat wobbled quite a bit on the stand. You could move one side of it up or down about 1cm. Is this true? Which throne do you recommend, or will I be happy with either? The bigdog looks a bit prettier in the pics I've seen and is the one I think I'd like if it doesn't wobble :)

WHO GIVES A ****! Seriously, I use a ****in lawn chair. Why would you want to waste so much money on a ****in throne. But thats just my opinion.

Why even have a drumkit when we can use pots and pans? Yeah, I agree man!

Throne is one of the most underrated things on a kit...position is very important, and it is also important that you can sit on something for a while without getting pain in your arse.
I had a cheap throne first, but I couldn't set it high or low enough, but now I have a new one and the difference is huge.

Anyway, how high does a lawn chair go? Not very. I used to sit low and I hate it now. It really does feel like I'm too close to everything. Sitting higher ( thighs just above 90 degrees) puts me in a dominant position both physically and mentally. I've definitely been playing better since going 'up' in the world :D

I don't think it's been mentioned yet.. so I will.
You can mix and match seats and bases. Often it's not the base that's needing replacing but the seat only. It's a nearly universal system of connection on the seats to the bases.
All of the companies sell both individually and can be ordered as such. If you like a given base, and a different given seat. Find out if the will work together, odd's are they will.
I've replaced my seat twice now, same base. Saved me some cash on that particular element. I'm looking now to replace it for a 3rd time.. and again, the same base I've had since the get go on this throne many many years ago.

Well it's funny you should mention that as I just got back from a shop where I was offered a hybrid throne and in fact, I've bought it. :) Here's the pics. It's a Tama leather top with a gibraltar base which they had in their storage room. I guess the base and top are possibly ex shop demo or something. Very comfy, ( although it's gonna take me a little time to get used to the extra thickness after such a thin round pearl top for years), but because he knows me from years back, he made the price £70 ( $122 ). What do you reckon to this throne? Excuse the hall carpet, it needs a good hoovering. The pointy bit at the front isn't as extreme as the bigdog or tama 530 but they only had the cloth top 530 which felt horrible and 'unslidy', I much prefer this leather.
