When you are getting ready for a gig, or just practicing, how do you get pumped??

I grab a gatorade, soda, or anything with high sugar content.
than I jump around, you know, jump around, then I start with a high energy song.

why do people have to get pumped up...I just get on stage and play. The music should be enough to pump you up.

A Good healthy diet is all you need to get pumped for life.

drink like half a beer, it helps me calm down the nerves, helps me play slightly better. i'll rock out to an opening band, or sprint up and down the road to get myself moving if we're opening

not really, but i know a guy who does, and he's really cool on stage

I don't try to get pumped. I have to calm myself down before the show to make sure I'm in control of what I'm doing.

I normally just play through the songs unplugged and warm up my voice with some scales, and harmonizations.

I also have a "prayer" I do before we go on to get into the spirit of the gig:

Our Father, who art in Nirvana,
Hallowed by thy name.
Thy stardom come, thy will be done
On Earth as is in Nirvana.
So give us this day our daily gig
And forgive us of our bottlings
As we forgive those who bottle us off
For thine is the stardom, the Power Chords and Glory
For ever and ever
Rock On.

(Is serious)

Do you mind if I use that "prayer" for my next gig?

You and me both. I don't need to drink soda, gatorade, listen to metal, or jump up and down to get me ready. I just like playing the music.

I just sit back stage and drink some water, do stretches and warm my fingers up and I drink tea and do vocal warm ups.

Or just play metal and you'll get pumped playing your own music :thumb:

It's not copyrighted or anything, so go for it. :)

If you play something such as metal which in the end is physically demanding (drummers point of view) warming up can help. It's not getting 'pumped' as such, but stretches, pressups and a bit of running can have the same effect as all this 'getting pumped' stuff. However, if you play something technically difficult rather than physically demanding it is better to make sure you feel calm and at your best, and empty your mind just before you get on stage.

One thing I've found with getting yourself too pumped up is that you play everything too fast.

That can be good for some styles, but not all.

TOO fast is never good

I dont really feel the need to get pumped up. Before a show I usually relax, drink some tea for my throats sake, warm up a bit, and then when its time, I walk on stage. No real pumping up for me, altho I dont play a lot of really fast stuff, and when I do, the music is all I need.

I get fired up when I listen to Metallica's Astronomy... That sparks something for me. That or a good Nirvana song.
