So i was bored and went into the bass forum.
I jacked this from them and thought it would be fun...
The title explains it all...you don't need to give a reason but you can if you want.
Give a rating out of 10 (1 being the worst) and then post a pic of your set.
Include two pictures: Overhead view, and Side/front view so people can clearly see the setup and finish.
Heres mine:

-DM
Haha yea, those are hmm "shed heads". I have 4 or 5 sets of tom heads I'll switch out depending on the music/gig.
It's not better or worse, it's just different. The difference is the identical of that between a accelerated kick pedal and a normal (linear) one.
As you push the pedal down more, the top hat will move more, or visa versa. This allows for both a longer throw and faster action. The feel is different, but that's a personal thing. This would be apposed to the straight linear pull of the other version.
Both are excellent, top of the line stands.

I agree with the heads but he puts his *** on the throne I don't think it really matters what the top looks like... For cymbals I see some A Customs, a Sabian AA and a Paiste Rude?... Those a good cymbals.

Yeah but I noticed the Lever Glide looks a little more heavy duty, but looks can be deceiving... Also it's more popular so I was just wondering. I have an Iron Cobra Power Glide although I've never tested the hi-hats stands...

Yea, I can see that. Prob cause the lever has a bit more stuff in the linkage area (to create the caming effect).

yeah, the only issue I'd have with it is the lack of cymbals on the left side, I like to keep my setup fairly ambidextrous personally.
It is almost. The angle of the picture changes the perspective but it's nearly a clean arc from side to side. The china might be a touch behind the main hats. The problem is logistics. It makes more sense to have smaller cymbals in tighter where a lot more work is going on, the splashes, hi-hats and smaller snare.
The carshes not only need more room to swing, but I need more room to swing. Not nessicarily for power but show. Unless the drumset was setup via center (hat's in the center), then it's pretty pointless to fight against the natural occuring bias of a normal setup.
It's just like guitar, just not as extreme. The hands have slightly different roles.
Also, to add crashes on the left side would require either stands, or a 3rd rack segment. Wich is just totally out of the question to sneak 1 extra crash onto the left side.
Another reason is more practical. The left side is left open for a music stand (i need charts a lot) and also so I can have a clear viewing angle towards the bass player and communication is easier visually.

jim, on the rogers, that splash... arm... thingy in the center, is it bent?
I used a wooden doll rod for that actualy and covered it with duct tape haha. Most of those stands are covered because they were all rusty and pretty shot down. It holds up real well though.

You would hit with the full stroke. You know, with the stick parallel to the china.

About the vert. china-
Why not just drop it down and lay it flat? It'll make it easier to play (don't have to lift your arm up so high) and save you a lot of anger and money later (won't crack because of impropor placement).

Whats the point though? Just put it in a more normal position...problem solved. The only reason I can see someone having a china like that is because it looks cool.

Yuh, as i said,t he cymbals and heads are appaling, apart from that Paiste 1000, which is a really nice power crash. Just incase your wondering, that green floor tom is from ym guitarists kit. It sounds really bad, and it needs new heads more than my kit, but i aqquired it, so i could have a 6 piece to play on.

03-17-2006, 02:05 PM
hey, i find them comfy to play on. Surely what i find best to play on is good for me? What is wrong with tom angles. If your gonna say technique, then okay, i agree, they are crap, but if your gonna say sound projection or something, i'm only playing at home, and it's facing into a corner.
Also, it's quite hard to lower your toms so you can play them flatter, on a bass drum mount. They are quite deep toms, so i'd have to raise my whole drum kit up or something, to have them remotly flat...

okay, tommorow, i will have apaly around with the angles, try and find ones that won't ruin my wrists or heads, but i will also find comfortable to play
EDIT: Did the tom angles as i was bored, they seem okayish to play, i'm sure i can adapt/modify them a bit. How do they look now?

Maniac, I say put your tom's how YOU want, don't be pressured into something you don't wanna do. If you play best with your toms angled the way you first had them, then just leave em' that way.
