what other instruments do you play?
what styles of music do you listen to, and want to play?

Basically how much money do you have is what really matters.

and lets not forget the tone he would be looking for:thumb:

Do you need an amp?
EDIT: What exactly is available around there?

ibanez, carvin, gibson, fender. those are my choices that are available in here

Warwick Corvette $$ (Double Buck)

I was going to suggest Warwick as well... but an Ibanez SRX model and Fender Bassman combo would be pretty cool for some metal stuff. The Fender is all purpose, and that Ibanez rocks pretty hard.
EDIT: Then like a BTB1000 something model. And SRX705...

Unless the importing taxes/tariffs and all around foreign cost is much higher, you can afford something of better quality than that.

I really suggest for metal the SRX705, and if you're Store is an Ibanez dealer, they can order it for you. Also, any of the SR900 models and up. You'll also probably have the BTB Prestige suggested to you.

I would get a fender mij '62 reissue and get the S1 mod done on it.
Fenders good for everything really and with the s1 mod you can get amuch morer boomy sound from it good for metal.

well instead of checking out 1000 brands mentioned here, you should just look for a bass you like visually, then play on it, to hear it's tone. If you like it's tone, check any damages, check if the neck isn't warped, check for anything that's loose, check how many tones you can get out of it, and if those tones would compliment your style, Oh and last but not least; make sure it fits your budget!
It's all about what you want from a bass really. Be sure to look everywhere for damages and when you think the strings are too high, tell the shopkeeper/cleric. When it's a good shop, they'll fix it before the next time you come in or give you a free setup if you decide to buy it.

I like the SRX 500 more than the 700 for rock for two reasons: the finish on the neck of the 500 is faster, and the 500 is bolt on, which is, inherently, punchier. I do like the SR900 though, I love the barts, such an awesome sound. You might want to look at the SR 500 as well, nice tone on that one too.
