I am a HUGE rancid fan, and i've read tons of posts containing arguments about whether "maxwell murder" is a decent solo or not and who can play it or think they can play it etc etc...

listen to axiom! that solo kicks the crap outta maxwell murder, and hopefully it'll build some respect for matt freeman, because im seeing alot of people saying he is not a tallented bassist at all.

but anyway- for those who have listend to it, ive recorded myself playing it, and was hoping to get some feedback on how well you think i did.

excuse the quality of this HORRIBLE bass... ive had a hard enough time playing this piece of sH*T

ive never heard the song, but from you playing it it doesnt seem incredibly great. Maxwell Murder is better.

Your playing was pretty good.

Axiom is a quite messy "solo" and not very good, but it's fast and that's what counts, right? I'd say it's harder to play than maxwell, but maxwell is better.

Yea you did well man, just you had quite a bit of fretbuzz there! Well done on using a pick:thumb: sounds well better, too bad i suck with one.

In my opinion Maxwell Murder is harder, i can play Axiom but just cant seem to get the start of MM solo up to speed.

I was into Rancid big time at one point and those 2 solos(MM and axiom) are brilliant. I always prefered Maxwell murder I think its slightly harder (its quicker) but they are both good. well played on the it though :thumb:

it seemed alright, but you tense up when you play it. Look at your picking hand in the video, near the end it's easy to tell you're getting tired and slowing down and it's because of your picking hand. Loosen up a little bit and you'll get it.

thanks guyss

yea i think theres something about the way Maxwell is structured that makes it more desirable, the shapes just sound more organized and less messy.

and for tensing up, yea your right haha, i notice that too lol. i think it is cuz im primarily a guitarist and it doesnt take as much punch to get the sound out on a guitar

You'd be an MX legend...I'm yet to hear someone play that solo on here. Granted, it's half apathy, one fourth disinterest in Rancid, and one fourth outright laziness. :p

You should try to play Betrayed by Rich kids on LSD. Some other song that has a cool intro that I decided to figure out was Like the Angel by Rise Against, not a fan of them though but pretty fun to play.

thanks guys, ill give maxwell a crack, i just need to re-memorize it

no that was not me on drums, i wish, lol thats just a video the site found as a match due to the keywords in my video file

and rise against is a cool band, that intro is easy enough to play, its fun.

that video didn't do much justice for freeman. your playing wasn't bad at all, but to me, it still just sounds like very freemanish fret wanking that just relies on speed to try and make it appealing.

just my two cents.

gav: during supernaut's thread (wasn't it?) about the MM solo, i believe it was bassguy that posted a recording of the solo. it was quite good.

Yeah, the intro to Like The Angel is pretty easy, but really fun to play. Much like the guitar solo.

yea my recording doesnt do much justice to freeman, i mean i played it accurate enough, but still doesnt compete to his recording of it.

but still, most people either like him or they don't, its all about what you listen too. he is not a traditional bassist.

and yea lol im almost done re-memorizing maxwell murder, ill have it up in a day or two i hope.

cool will be good to hear that solo again. there was this guy I knew once that reconed he could play the maxwell murder solo in 7 seconds (normally about 12) never saw him do it but I bet he couldnt

idk there is just something about the way it is structured that makes it hard to play fast as well as accurate
