View Full Version : Acoustic set up or my own for e-kit?

The thing is that I was setting up my new Roland TD-3KV yesterday and when I finished, I realized that the set up I did was nothing like my acoustic set's. One of the advantages of the e-kit is that, it gives you more freedom of placing the pieces, due to lack of hardware, size and volume. So you can be very precise at setting it.

My question is: should I keep the sitting as it is (very, very comfortable) or change it according to my acoustic kit's? I fear that I'll get used to these differences and that would screw up my practise with the band when I play my acoustic kit. Any comment would be helpful... :)

you should merge the two drumsets together...like daney carey. So you would have an acoustic/electric kit wouldn't that be awesome

that's a good question. i practice a lot on my e-kit, but when i go to my acoustic kit it feels weird to play it because everything is so far apart. i really need my e-kit to be set up as compact as possible because it's in a very small room that i use for other things. if you're worried about that then take some measurements of your acoustic kit and try to duplicate that on your e-kit.

Yeh, the thought crossed my mind! Actually, I have my acoustic set at my "studio", that's where my band practices and my e-kit at home. For now, they will stay as they are but in the future I will definately merge them, at least just for laughs... :)

Exactly what I thought! I mean, it's the natural thing to happen, isn't it?

My "entertainment" room is big enough to place an acoustic kit, so it wouldn't be a problem spreading the Rolands...

take some measurements of your acoustic kit and try to duplicate that on your e-kit.

Maybe I will go half-way... Find a position, not too close but not wide either, cut the gap between the two sets a bit smaller...

When I first set up my e-kit I wanted it to be as close to my acoustics as possible. But it's just not easy to get your e-drums as far apart. The way my Roland's set up I can't manage to space my snare and toms far enough apart from each other, also - it's hard to get your hi-hat pad far away without it just being akward.

My e-kit is set up similiar to my acoustic kit, however, they aren't the same setup. But that would be nice :)
