Hiya bassists, i'm from the guitar forum, and this seems to be a successful and rather eyeopening thread there, so i figured, hell, i figure might as well open them up in the drum and bass forums too guys. Enjoy!
Thought it would be a good poll idea. Just to see how many people support themselves, and or how.
Oh and your votes are public
Voter beware
The difference between self employed and Career/Not So Poop Job would be, like self employed would be your a doctor with your own practice. But if someone employed you, you would put career/not so poop job
And well if you worked for someone it falls under either career/not so poop job or min. wage job
oh and guitarists, bassists, and drummers, it would be nice if you voted in only one poll. Thanks

I put minimum wage job, even though I'm not working for minimum wage but I don't fit into any of the other categories.

I get allownece from my parnets for doing well in school, keeping both houses clean, and occasional other chores/errands.
I sell my lunch at school to desperate douches who are willling to dish out $10 for a sandwich.
I also hang sheetrock for roughly 10 dollars an hour.

government subsidies isn't an option here, something that us swedes get on a monthly basis for studying. That is my main income. So I put "minimum wage job"

Parents, minimum wage job and self-supporting band even though that's kind of over with now.
Edit: I put minimum wage job for the same reason as Bass_swede

I don't have a job or get money from parents, besides a little every once in a while if I'm going out with some friends.
I just don't buy much gear, as I don't feel the need to. There's really only a couple things I want, but they can wait.

Software engineer for a real company right now, but I've been self employed in the past. Maybe someday I can support myself building :)

i voted band andminimum wage job. my job is over minimum wage for my age but its still pretty poor pay and my band pays for its own recording, pa, practice space, peterol etc with gig and cd money.

Governmental fees which should be for school, but I use it as some extra pocket money. A little job from time to time, pocketmoney and some money I get with my band. I have voted for:
minimum wage job
self supporting band
Although the last one isn't 100% self supporting, it also costs me money ofcourse ;)
I don't think that the pocket money I spend on my bass is directly linked to "Parents". When would have chosen the "Parents" option is when my parents actually buy me stuff. Buy me stuff besides my birthday/christmas :thumb:

Minimum wage...again. During the Katrina/Rita situation, I was making about $13.50 an hour, but now it's back to minimum wage. No more government money for me.

I put in parents cuz they pretty much give me money. And give me allowance
they would get me like 5 1000 $$ guitars but my dad wiould rather have me play football.

Scraping up the money for bass stuff hasn't been that hard for me. I dont buy a whole lot, so its all long term saving
now, saving up enough money to go buy a pack of cigarettes is giving me serious trouble
I have a minimum wage job. It get me where I want to go.
On a side note, I hate people who get their parents to buy them EVERYTHING! I, admitantly, have not had a weathy upbringing. Anything I wanted I had to pay for myself. That is the way it should be. It gives people more appreciation for money and the goods that will be purchased. I have spent easilly $2500+ on musical eqipment and supplies over the last 5 years, with $2000 spent within the last three months. The only thing I got from my parents for music was a 10W amp.

Some of my gear has been bought through minimum wage jobs (Newsagent, restaurant), the rest has been bought with my student loans.
Note - Loans, not grants. I will have to pay them back myself.

McDonalds FTW! May be sh*t but I'm the one laughing with my nice basses and £400 in the bank! (thats after very little saving)
I mean, I did get money towards musical stuff for Christmas.. but that doesn't really count for parents.

Woot for working in a grocery store deli.
Not quite minimum, but still not even $6 an hour. It's not so bad though, since I live at home at least until end of summer and don't have many expenses

I paint planes at the RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) Base.
Earn $18 an hour. Not great. I was earning $22 p/h pick packing in a warehouse, but that job sucked balls.
Painting planes is interesting. So I voted for 'Career/Not So Poop Job'
Edit: My parents also help me out every now and then. My dad paid for a hard case and a guitar rack when I bought my Hot Rod. But before I worked, everything came from the parentals.

I basically work my *** off 2-3 months driving a fork lift truck in summer and live by that rest of the year + subsidies for studies. So I'll put "mininum wage job".
