Well first you gotta learn how to slap pop. Go look at the lesson section thingy and hit up how to slap pop.

Most chili songs are pretty easy like 'cant stop' I think it was. I usally just make up my own stuff really, since all the bands that have a slap/pop bassist in it, I dont like (exept for chilis).

So yeah just experiment, but first get you slap/pop techniqe down.

I started on some Chili Peppers, like alot of people did

Higher Ground, very straight forward

Aeroplane, gotta get those mutes down

Also, you can slap / pop any song you like really (even though in most cases it won't fight with the song). Take some old groovey songs (anything by Earth Wind & Fire) and slap the main line for practice. Good luck

Take in all the advice they just said and also dont try to learn anything just yet, get a feel for slapping and popping and once you can make a solid sound then pick up on some songs. Try Dig by Mudvayne, anything by RHCP, Primus's version of Master of Puppets or Nothing to Gein by Mudvayne.

Basically once you can master the technique of slapping and octave popping youre good.

The Chilli Peppers cover of Love Rollercoaster has a pretty basic octave slapping line for its verse. First slap song I started on. Only learned the verse though.

Jungle Man by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is pretty easy and has a nice groove to it, just make sure you get the timing down and that you can switch to plucking for the bridge.

First slap song I learned was Can't Stop, very easy, just get the mutes right.

Higher Ground is easy, but you shouldn't try it until you've established the thumb speed, otherwise it'll sound kinda sloppy.

Try Naked in the Rain by RHCP, that's another good one.

...do u have to know how to play bass pretty well to slap?...

I'd say yes, at least to slap effectively anyway (meaning quickly and cleanly)...
