Hey guys, I need some advice.

I got a Warwick Corvette $$ (Double Buck) with a black satin oil finish, i.e. the bass is sealed and does not require and waxing/oiling on the body.

So anyway, I was just showing it too a friend at work and have just noticed to little things that have really pissed me off.

The first is a small ding in the bottom side of the bass where the electronics sit, looks like it was banged against the edge of a table or similar and the second one, which I think happened at the same time is what looks like a bubble of air underneath the finish.

Neither of these were asd a result of me, hence the pissed off ness.

So can you guys offer any suggestions at to fixing this. The body itself is not damaged just the satin coating. I was thinking of sanding it slighly to get rid of the damage then finishing it off with some clear varnish.

If the damage either went through the finish or it dented the wood, you can't really do anything unless you know how to restore that kind of stuff.

Ok, I haven't done this myself, but my friend reckons it works a treat.

You get a tea towel and place it over the ding, and get an iron and quickly run over the ding. Apparently this fixes it.

Well..........guess what else mr "genius at the foam store" has bloody done.

Can't believe I let it out of my sight for even 2 min......

So anyway, I see that the idiot who did the foam cut out for the bass, so that it would be held snugly in the generic hardshell case I bought, has also left a nice little permanent marker line on the top horn, which I have now only just noticed as it was in navy bluer and did not stand out from the black finish.

I have just attacked the mark with spit and servettes (all i have at the moment) and gotten some of it off but it appears that the rest has penetrated to the wood. I feel like breaking a brick over this idiots head and think I am going to speak to his manger and see if I can get some money out of them for getting it fixed properly.

****ing assholes! I an NEVER I repeat NEVER EVERY letting any of my Equipment out of my sight Again, and woe betide the smart *** ****wit who even thinks of laying a finger on my **** without my express consent.

Sorry for the outburst...........I am severly pissed, its not even a week old.

For the marker try some wood cleaner like that pinesol stuff or whatever they make to polish wood surfaces..

A high alcohol liquid (such as vodka, aftershave etc) should work a treat on dissolving marker pen. I don't know if it's any good for the wood though .

I've used aerosol deoderant for getting marker off computer equipment - a high alcohol liquid, as Machines said.

Mineral Turps, or Methylated Spirits should work.

Update time.........

Well I used a wood cleaning product called pledge and it got rid of the market very nicely, thank god it had not penetrated down to the wood.

As for the dings I took a razor blade and very very very carefully shaved away the damaged part of the coating, then using another permanent marker (my own this time, and black nor damn blue) taped it very lightly over the damaged area which was a whitish colour due to the nature of the finish, just to cover it up a bit. Next came the polyeurethane to fill it in and complete the finish.

Overall it looks a hell of a lot better, you can still see the dings if you look very closely but overall I am happy with the repair.

I suppose the only good thing to come of this is the lesson of "Don't let other people touch you gear unless you are there to supervise them"

Oh, and thanks for all the advice. Much appreciated

See that's why I never let any of my guitars out of my sight

I let my friend have a go on my Jazzmaster at school and he banged it against the desk, nice little ding there

From the sounds of it, the damage wasn't very noticeable in the first place.

My bass has tons of damage (dents, etc) because of me, I really don't care, though.

Its just that its less than a week old and all the other basses I have owned have never had any damage done to them becuase I am extremely careful with them.

Just peeved thats all..........

I can see why you're annoyed since it was new and the dings were someone elses fault - but never buy a bass you can't stand to see dinged. Because if you're really using it, it's going to happen. If you can't have fun with it, what's the point? :p

^Ive had my bass for over a year now and although i was expectiing dings, i haven't got one yet. I guess its bound to happen but not yet.

Just lucky i guess.
