ok, try to keep this breif. I want to record each individual instrument with this (cool edit pro), for example start with the guitar, record that, then listen to the guitar and record drums. But I want both seperate, so as I can mute each one and hear the other. When I record the guitar, then listen to the guitar on headphones, and try and record the drums(electric plugged into the mic jac of the computer) it puts them together on the same track = no individual drum track. Understand? I am new at this, probably obvious, and don't quite understand all the terminology on the program. So I'm not sure what does what. I tried the help option, but can't find what i'm looking for.
Your help is appreciated people. thank you

So, the drums get recorded onto the same track that you'd previously recorded the guitar to, without erasing/recording over the guitar? I have no idea how that would occur.

When you record the drums, (or whatever you record second), click the little box with an R on it on Track 2, and make sure the box is not clicked on the first track. When you click record, it should record on Track 2 only. The box is right beside the solo and mute buttons on each track. If you need me to explain it better I can.

No, I got that part. I am using 2 seperate tracks. But I think the problem is my sound card maby. Because I think whatever comes out of my output, goes into the input. But u see what happens, is when I record the guitar on the first track, and then record the drums on the second track, it adds the guitar in with the drums, on the second track
..... oh and this program, to get it, just type in "cool edit pro 2.0" in yahoo or google or whatever and u can get a bunch of places to dl it from. But it's just a trial, for 21 days i think

And uh, can you record thru USB with cool edit pro, or does it has to be via sound card? I don't want to install the program right now, i'll wait a couple of months till i have my podxt live.:)
just curious.

ok, it is figured out. It was after all my audio recording settings of the computer. See it was set so that whatever was being played or whatever was coming out of the output, was being recorded. So I switched it to just the mic, and now works fine.
Thanks for your help fellaz

I think there were recording options for sterio, mono, and microphone. And then I got a few other options, where it's analog, digital. or something like that. That is on my laptop. And I'm on the desktop. So I can't remember
bunch of $hit anyway to play with

volume control -> file -> properties -> recording -> ok -> *make sure its set to your input and not to "wav/mp3" or something.

If it is set to that thats the problem, good luck!
