View Full Version : Most awesome Ampeg rig in history
My school had its annual jazz club performance this weekend, and we need another amp. So my band teacher busts out this AMAZING old Ampeg Portaflex rig with a 15. SOOO WARM. I have pics, but i cant get them off my phone yet, but ill tell you, the cab was in terrible shape. The amp was perfect though, the tubes were all original, the sound almost burned me. I had never head my bass sound so good.

those things are flipping amazing..... i read somewhere that people that own recording studios often will pay big bucks to get an original one of those for their studios since they sound so great. I played a reissue once, it was really good, and i'm sure the original ones were great too.

I record with one of those all the time. A guy I know who used to play drums picked up one of those off e-bay for relatively cheap for his studio.
A couple week ago, this kid came in the studio and blew the thing up. It actually set on fire.... he's since had it fixed. He grabbed the kid by the throat... Good times!
Edit: Never saw this post... I would have quoted it...

I'd like to have one of the reissues, or an original. I could never afford an original one, though.

Because the rate at which tubes wear out is great exaggerated and over-hyped.

And the amp was never pushed
Nor used in the last 10 or so years.
I asked him today if he would sell it, i get a resounding "no"
