Hope i got the right forum here, anyway

Just bought one off a lad second hand. The problem is when i hit the pads the sound i get is really distorted and doesnt really sound anything like its supposed too. This was when i had it connected to a Boss recording desk. I plugged some normal earphones in and it worked fine, however i did the same think later and got the same distorted problem. Any ideas whats wrong? Ive tried different leads, different earphones, tried it with speakers etc but i keep getting the same thing.

Have you tried plugging in different devices into the Boss recording desk. The problem may be with it. Hope you get it all sorted out.

Yeah and it all worked fine. The problems definatly with the drum machine. I played about with a few of the settings and i think there was a slight improvement. I could make out the snare and bass but it was still quite bad.
Im wondering if i can reset the whole machine to the default settings or somthing, but it doesnt say anything in the manual.

If you want to clear it and reset everything to default settings turn it on while holding "ERASE" and "PLAY". This will erase all user beats and songs and stuff though, so make sure to backup anything you need.

Two topics from other forums with people having the same problem, might try some of the stuff recommended on there.

Question.

When you were listening to the device through headphones, was that through the Boss Console, or was it from the device itself?

What your discribing sounds like a level mismatch somewhere, where one part of your system is being clipping, or distorting. Check your gain structure in your Boss recorder, check your output levels of the Alesis.

Ive done it in a number of ways

I simply plugged headphones into the main out of the drum machine, and tried it at various volume levels

I did the same again but replaced the headphones with computer speakers

I plugged the drum machine into the Boss desk, and then headphones into the desk. I took off all the effects and played about with the input levels and all that.

I got the same problem everytime:(

Hmm have you tried digging in the manual a little, read up here:

If you can't find something in there that will help you fix it, it may need servicing.

Nothing in it that helped, i hope it doesnt need servicing as i dont know where to get it done. Becasue its 2nd hand i dont know whether its still got warranty or anything

Hmmm, second hand likely wouldn't have a warranty. You might try taking it to your local music store and see if they can't get it working. If they can't help you, usually they'll know who can.
