View Full Version : From sitting to standing

I've been learning some solo from an issue of Total Guitar, and its coming along fine sitting down. But when I stand up to play it, I either can't get my pinky to reach the low E string, or I look like an idiot cos I have my guitar so damn high.

Opinions: Do I keep the guitar pretty damn high, reduce coolness factor, and be able to play the solo well, or lower my guitar and just learn to bend my wrist around to compensate?

Thanks

Play your guitar high, be able to play the solo, and have less chance of getting any nerve problems in the future:thumb:

Being able to play the solo will make up for any coolness you will lose from having your guitar higher.

start with it high and if you want work your way down.

^ Yup. Except for the working your way down part. Everyone knows real men play with their guitar on their tits. Just look at Mike Einziger and John Frusciante.

Yeah.

You shouldn't really feel any huge difference in terms of guitar height when you go from sitting to standing.

If you do...then adjust that strap!

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Solo > Coolness.. That and I don't have to raise the guitar as much to hit someone with it if they say I'm uncool =P

well if i was u Id have the guitar at the height at which u play it best at

i vary mine on different guitars because of weight and neck thinness etc but thats how i like it

NEVER HAVE IT LOW JUST TO LOOK COOL

Audiences dont even care to be honest so nout good comes out of it apart from u increasing ur chances of getting Carpel tunnel syndrome and decreasing ur playing efficiency

Also, try practicing more while standing up. It'll be better in the long run.

the best thing that helped me was to jsut sit back and play it pick up pretty high so all you see is the frets you dont want to look like an idiot it with it so high up just keep it low against your belly then you should not have trouble hitting those high frets especially when your sitting down just dont arch your hand when palying to low

i also can't play as well standing up, my guitar isn't extremely low, it's around mine belly, i can play most stuff, just some of the stuff on the low E gets annoying, as i have to bend my wrist more, mayhaps if i cut it it'll be more flexible!

You should have your guitar strap adjusted so it's in the same position standing that it is sitting down.
