eb ambs on tom resos is a good choice ~ eb pins as floortom resos would deaden the drum slightly, which is fine if thats what youre going for.

Don't get Pinstripes for your resos. Get ebony Ambassadors if anything.

if the kid wants color, let him, or at least offer some proof why the clears are better.

Try ebony ambs for all resos, the pins will sound absolutely APPALLING in that role, I'm not sure what Thugs is thinking here.

he had mentioned in another thread that his floortoms ring too much compared to his racktoms. i explained to him that its because of the depth of the floortoms that they ring so much and to cut back on that ringing he should use a 2ply reso, but only on the floortoms, not on the racks.

its a valid suggestion.

AH, ok. What I would suggest is...I have deep floor toms also, and I've achieved a good sound from them. Just tune the bottom head a bit higher than the top, cut down on excess warble and ring.

yea thats what i do too ~ tune the reso up to take the slop out of the drum.

a 2ply reso would lose the slop at a lower tuning tho.

a screw it ~ lets all just go concert tom ;) :thumb:

ok, so once my ebony ambs come in ill have coated emperors on top and ebony ambs on bottom. should i use remO's on them cuz i already some. or should i just not use them?

HeLLmO
03-12-2006, 05:05 PM
^well, tune 'em up the best u can first, then decide if u need the o rings, if u fiddle around with the batter and reso heads u should hit a nice tuning and not require the o rings

Metaldrummer616
03-12-2006, 05:33 PM
yea i was gonna do that cuz i hate orings cuz they rattle and fall off.

Yeah, but 2 ply over 2 ply gives you such a dead sound.

Metaldrummer616
03-12-2006, 08:50 PM
will it have some sustain to it? i think ill just get the 2 ply for my floor toms to get rid of some ring.

Lebanon? Ahh no. My Mom is Lebanese, My dad is American. I actually was born in kansas. My mom came over during the Lebanese Civil War so I'm stuck here. I like to think of myself more as an Arab/Lebanese than an American for obvious reasons.

Exactly, how did you come to that conclusion? Considering you don't know me, nor do you know of the heads that i have played:rolleyes:. Yes, i have played Ebony ambassador heads.

To Chippy: Sorry, i didnt have the energy to write it at the time. Ebony ambs have a warmer, more open sound than normal, clear ambs. I prefer a brighter sounding head as a reso. But really it is the threadstarter's own decison as to what he/she wants and what soun he/she is after.

Btw; that was a great burn. Man, i wish i'd thought of that, and i had photos of my kit with ebony's on them....damn

Assuming you played Jazz and Funk, and had a jazz and funk style kit ( and remebring you saying you played jazz and funk ) I came to the conclusion that most people who play jazz ( and funk ) tend not to have ebony heads. I was just saying that sometimes people tend to jump on the bandwagon and say "A" is better than "B" without actually testing them. Sorry...

Great Burn.. Yeah Yeah;). It would have been funnier if I was actually talking to him.
