New stuff, old stuff, it doesn't matter what era of Hancock.
It'd be nice if non-piano suggestions could be made, but I don't mind if most are pianists.

I think he's probably looking for something a bit deeper than that. If Coleman Hawkins is similar to Hancock, then I must be listening to the wrong Coleman Hawkins.
But I mean, saying "new stuff, old stuff, any stuff" is kind of tough. "The Piano" type stuff is really different from the "Quartet" stuff which is really different from the "Third Plane" stuff which is really different from the "New Standards" stuff which is really different from the "Headhunters" stuff. . .
Maybe look into Bill Evans' "Explorations", Mulgrew Miller's "Live At Yoshi's" albums, some McCoy Tyner ("Real McCoy", or maybe "Revelations"), Wynton Kelly's "Someday My Prince Will Come", Ahmad Jamal's "Chicago Revisited", Brad Mehldau's "When I Fall In Love", and Kenny Barron's "Art of Three" and "Green Chimneys".
Especially the last two, and Art of Three. It has Ron Carter on it, who worked extensively with Hancock.
EDIT: Those are all pianists.
Sorry, but I can't really think of any other instrumentalists who could be considered similar to Hancock, unless you give me a specific album.
I think samuel did a pretty good job, but it's very hard to recommend you something when you don't give an era, Hancock has done a lot of things.

Well, I'm a fan of almost all of his stuff. From Empyrean Isles to Headhunters to Possibilities (and I think he might have done something with Pat M?).
It's really his lyrical and full style that I love, so it doesn't have much to do with what he's composing with or what style of music, so much as how he goes about doing it.
So, what I'm really asking is- Who are some really groovy jazz musicians?

some really groovy jazz musicians.. how about freddie hubbard? red clay is a killer album that you should check out. perhaps some miles davis' bitches brew, charles mingus' 'mingus mingus mingus mingus mingus', some charles lloyd, weather report, the legend john coltrane, maybe some nu jazz like bugge wesseltoft would be something new and interesting to check out (i'd recommend getting new conception of jazz live).
they're all pretty groovy jazz cats, sorry no pianists, can't think of any herbie-ish ones off the top of my head. also make sure you've really dug deep around herbie's discography - if you dig headhunters, make sure you've got thrust and man-child in your collection too.
edit: in fact, now that i think about it, you should really check out some charles lloyd stuff. perhaps forest flower would be a good starting point - keith jarrett and jack dejohnette just sit back there cookin like hell with cecil mcbee on bass. fantastic groovy, jazz fusion - these guys used to play alongside the likes of joplin and hendrix.

There is! :) Herbie forever. *sigh
Weather Report and Chick Chorea produce similar music to Herbie. So Chick is another keys player.. he uses heaps of other musos though. And a more contemporary (and Australian) Band: Thonk. Their stuff is magical. They actually supported Joe Zaiwanul when he came out here a few years back (what a tops night!)
Also : George Duke is awesome.
Are you specifically looking for Herbie-like stuff? If so, look for anything under Jazz Rock [sic] or 1970S Fusion. :)
