Hello all, I need some help. I'm pretty used to recording electric guitar, but I've never recorded acoustic before and I was wondering how to make it sound good. I have an ok guitar and an ok mic, but whenever i record it the sound is either too weak or there's too much string buzz and pick scratching depending on how close the mic is. What should I do to get a full, clean sound? I think it's probably got something to do with mic positioning, but I don't know much about that.

Any suggestions?

I notice that alot of acoustic performers used pickups, to get a nice clear sound from their instrument, then a mic as well, too make it sound more full, as for mic positioning i would only advise what i've seen live, which is to put the mic about a foot away from where you're strumming. I guess it'd differ depending on hard you strummed/picked

here is how i do it:
take your mic and position it at the 12th fret about 6-12 inches away

if you have two mics that are the same kind and want to record stereo, you can angle one down towards the lower strings and the other one up at the higher strings, then pan each mic left and right as desired.

oh, and use a condenser mic if you can because it will sound more detailed and brighter.
