So I was thinking on buying new hats.
I saw someone selling these hats on Craigslist Boston around where I live. (Paiste Sound Forumla Sound Edge Hihats 14"). Now I know of several other series, but having never really looked into Paiste before I've never heard anything from sound formula. How are they compared to the other Sound Edge hats? (Rude, 2002, Signature, etc.)
Also, what would be a decenet price?
Thank you all very much!

are that the hats with the ''wavy'' edge?
If so, do not buy them.. We have them at school and they suck imo

Search eBay for prices. Look for auctions nearing their close for accurate pricing.

"Sound Formula, one of the first series to use Paiste's patented Signature Alloy, which was at first known as Sound Alloy or Sound Formula. Eventually absorbed by the "Signature" line. "
From Wikipedia. Thanks very much, didn't even think of using Wiki! :thumb:

You're welcome. I find its list of past and present Paiste series pretty comprehensive, and useful if you ever get confused.
Personally, I reckon you should at least give them a try, especially if you like the Paite sound.

You're... a moron. You didn't indicate what series of soundedge you have at school. The sig/2002 soundedge hats are awesome hats. Sound Forumlas came before Sigs and share a lot of the same characteristics, so they should be good hats. Soundedges are pretty damn loud hats with a really defined, cutting sound.

The wikipedia thing is wrong though.
It states that 2002 bronze (CuSn8) is the same as B8, which it's not.
B8 bronze is in a 2:23 ratio of copper/tin, while 2002 bronze is 2:18.

So correct the article! Enlighten those less fortunate, and so on and so forth.

sound formula are good stuff. you can usually find a bunch of them floating around ebay at a given time, and they arent too expensive.
i would say if its about $150 or less, it would be great.

i own a pair of 14" soundformula soundedge hats.. they're amazing. seriously.
they've got this solid, fullbodied sound to it closed. its very articulate, and the pedal sound is amazingly defined. its washy when open, and loud too.
they don't sound like k hats or a hats, except maybe the a custom masterounds, so don't compare them with the likes of k or a hats.

from paiste.com (2002 discription)
Background: During the 1960's developing Beat and Rock music required cymbal sound to match the new frequencies and volume levels and in 1967 the Giant Beat series was created - The 2002 was developed 1971 fusing the power of the Giant Beat with the differentiation of the Jazz series Formula 602 - In 2005, Paiste once again makes the 2002 a core series for the future, as the best and most innovative Dimensions models are incorporated into the newly expanded 2002, adding current trend cymbal sound to this venerable line
Innovation: First cymbal series fully developed for electronically amplified music
Alloy: CuSn8 Bronze, also known as "2002 Bronze"
B8 is B8. the paiste "signature" stuff is roughly B14, which is the ratio you've got there.
fyi :)
