I'm looking for peoples general view on Paiste cymbals, as I find most of the cymbal talk seem to be Zildjian/Sabain centered (with some Wuhan or Stagg on the side).

I've never had the chance to try out any Paiste cymabals, the only time i've seen one used was a local concert 2 weeks back....and it sounded horrible, to be blunt. So who here owns them and what do you think of them :)

Paiste signatures are somewhat a prestiged series of cymbals. They sound a lot like Zildjian A Customs but to me, a bit more cutting and a bit less washy. And they cost about £30 extra a piece.
Neither is better in my opinion, its a matter of preference.

Paiste 302 are real good cheap cymbals - I have a Paiste 302 ride and its great, if it had a little more ping and a louder bell, I wouldn't consider saving up for a professional line.

paistes are excellent cymbals, even though they are madly overpriced here in the US. they're signature line is loved by many, and are good for lots of kinds of music, jazz dudes use them, danny carey uses them. that being said, i think the sigs are kind meh, great cymbals, but i don't like 'em. i haven't had much experience with the traditionals, so i can't talk about those. Rudes are good for loud music, basically the Z custom or AA Metal X of Paiste, not particularly bad, but not worth it when u can have....2oo2s!!!! IMO greatest line paiste cymbals. they have an amazing sound, extremely classic, really big sounding. the crashes are great, the rides are great, and very crashable, the hats will blow u away, and i hear the splashes are good, but i've never tried one myself. they have some of the best beginner cymbals too, u can't go wrong with PST5's as a first set of cymbals

I have a Paiste 502 16" crash, and although people consider that to be a fairly dodge range, I really like the response of it. I guess it's just up to individual opinion.

Paiste are great. One thing I think is that the RUDES, which are meant to be played aggressively, are actually good cymbals compared to thier counterparts. i guess its the 2002 alloy..

They're expensive as hell in the UK, but they sound very nice. There's been an 18" Full Crash in my local for some time now, but since the very cheapest I can get it is about £175, it'll probably stay there a while longer.

Why are they expensive in the UK?
Over here, they're pretty much the cheapest pro line, if you know where to look.

They're made in switzerland, so it's less distance to travel than from the US/Canada.

I find the Signatures are... very glassy sounding, like a refined/choked A Zildjian almost (when it comes to Full crashes, Dry/Heavy rides, heavier weight hats)... that being said, I don't mind them at all, they have a good tone, and are very consistent if you're into that sort of thing... but seeing as a 21" Dry Heavy costs $450+tax CND, and my 22" A Ping was $199.99+tax CND, you can see why I wouldn't get the Signatures. 14" Signature Soundedge: $630.00+tax, 14" A Mastersounds: $205.00+tax... 18" A Zildjian crash: $150.00+tax, 18" Signature crash: $340.00+tax. Paiste's prices are ridiculous.

I've always wondered that as well, but they're still quite a bit more expensive than the Zildjian and Sabian. Customs maybe?

EDIT: Seems I'm wrong. Or perhaps they're just more expensive in my local shop.

Anyway, examples, all 16":

Zildjian
K - £134
K Custom - £142

Sabian
HH - £130
HHX - £130

Paiste
2002 - £110
Signature - £139

I love Paiste... they seem to get a bad rep because of price, but I buy most of mine used anyway, I've gotten some insane prices on them.

I ****ing love sig crashes... the exact sound I was looking for and what got me into them.

I have a paiste sig ride and absolutly love the thing. They maybe expensive but are definitly worth the price you pay. They are easily on par with zildjian or sabian.

paiste cymbals are made of cymbal material and sound like cymbals....people and their brands. go play music and quit asking about what brands sound like.

yeah... paiste is the ****! :D

i think paiste rocks because the "2oo2 alloy" is really B8. just like your sabian B8's. paiste really innovated and experimented and developed an amazing product out of something everyone thinks is "lesser" quality.

paiste also has the most consistancy among cymbals. unlike Z and S, 99% of the "Signature Power Crashes" will sound almost the same. This makes their soundclips more accurate and also hows just how dedicated to quality paiste is.

When you buy a Sabian or a Zildjian you know you've made a special find. Paiste's seem more... dime a dozen (although they cost nowhere near a dime a dozen :p)... if you've heard one, you've heard them all, there's no flavor between them. They're cloned cymbals .
