Hey, guys. Me again. I just put this tune up on soundclick. It's the first real recorded keyboard solo. I'm also doing background/angry vocals. I'm wanting crits on the whole song, but on the keys solo, mostly. It was my first that was going to be performed live with a bunch of guys in the band that are BADASSES! so I had to make an impact with my first time around. Didn't want to get lost in the background. So that's the explanation on why it's all fast. I tried to make it tasteful, too.

Anyway, here it is!

Please post a link of your band and I'll totally hit you back.

P.S. My solo is the 3rd. It starts around 4:06. The first solo is keys by the lead singer/songwriter and the second is our guitartist. Thanks!

The recording, playing, signing, it's all technically solid, but the solos just seemed like total wankery to me. I was actually kind of bored at some point, because--and this is going to sound like total fluff--there didn't seem to be any emotion in it, or any kind of progression in the solo toward a crescendo. It felt like .. ok, here's a badass solo, here's anoher solo, and here's another solo.

The song is tight musically and the solos are impressive in their technical merit. But I agree with Slackjaw in that it seems like "shredding for the sake of shredding." When people become very good at soloing technique, they often forget that holding back can be more effective than showing all of your tricks at once.

Yeah, and I get that. I guess mine, (can't speak for the other dudes) would have been really well suited for a high energy live setting. On the recording, it kind of sounds a bit too John Petrucci.

Thanks, guys.
