This may interest some people. Maybe not.
I recently transcribed the 1st 16 measures of the drum part for the trumpet solo in "This I dig of You"
I'm doing the song for my jury, but I was proud of myself for getting that much, cause it's a fast song.

Looks good :thumb: Don't see any mistakes :p

Tell me though do you write your ride on top of the top line?

I assume you meant "why do you write your ride on top of the top line?"
It's just standard drum notation. The ride is always there and the hi-hat is on the top space.

you have really neat writing (at least music writing...i wish i could draw quarter rests like that...nice job on that...

here's a link to the audio. Take a listen and see if it matches up. (the hardest part was the first measure, but I think I got it. Simplicity is always difficult to hear.)
I never heard any bassdrum in their and I have a subwoofer, but it is jazz, so i guess that's understandable. Anyway, the transcription starts when the trumpet solo starts at around 38 second mark. You'll recognize it by the trumpet break.

I've seen many different ways of writing drum notation... The way I write is the hi-hat is on top of the top line, the ride is on the top line and the crash is one above the hi-hat.

fair enough... there's no really strict manner in which to do it.

Yeah. Sometimes I get all confused when I'm reading things... I asked because I noticed that you had a hi-hat w/foot the whole way through and I figured the top cymbal must not be the hi-hat :p I say if you're used to a notation and it is correct, don't let anyone tell you to change :thumb:

Nice little anacrusis you got there. :)

Isn't the ride in the space above the top line (G if in middle c in piano treble cleff)? Oh well. I suppose it doesn't matter. I've seen parts of the drum all over the place before. Good stuff, I'm not very good at sight reading :(

could be written many ways. I'm using the John Riley's standard notation.

Nice transcription, man! sweet job. I'll print that i think...if its cool? With the not hearing bassdrum in it, the drummer prob knows how to feather really well? but yeah i'd understand if there wasnt any bass in it.

Awesome job again, man, neat writing too, those quaver rests are the shiz! so neat!

http://www.bsharp.org/jazz/charts/Coleman/drum.gif .. woot .. standard drum notation .. but honestly, .. i disliek the way this shows it. doesnt even use the top line(not counting additional percussion.)
