i listened to Mugshot, it sounds good. i must say, it was not what i expected. the band image (and to a lesser extent, the site design) scream hard rock/prog rock or even metal..

Our music varies widely. We have a song almost completed now that's straight outta Tool's playbook, heavy and driving. We also have a couple almost "Jazzy" tunes. In general we're Rock/Modern Rock though.
Thanks for checking us out!

on the picture, the guy on the far right looks kind of like El Hefe from NOFX.
I'm listening to the music now, so far it's really good. :)

it is prety good, but i think you could spend a little more time on the dynamics and riffs, maybe have a few more errors gone right in there.
It just sound a little too simple, hard to explain. If i were to put it in a metaphor, its like comparing an outline picture to a full color picture, while its good, it just doesnt have the omph needed to really capture.
But hey, I'm pretty critcal when it comes to stuff like this :P

the simplicity is perhaps why a lot of the people on here like it. people tend to like simplicity in music, and plus it's better for non musicians. while non-musicians will be amazed at some really complex stuff knowing it's gotta be tricky, they'll listen more to the simple stuff because that's usually what's catchier. don't get me wrong though, sometimes the most complex stuff can be catchier...but in most cases, it's the simple stuff

Yes that is a good point, but the ultimate music i find captures both the simple and complex side of music in every song and has a soul.
With this sort of music I'd recomend you to look at "milk milk lemonade" to see what im getting at... while some of their stuff isn't too great, most of it is pretty good. Thats a new zealand band by the way

Hey I totally know what you're saying man, and I appreciate it and don't view it as negative. However, at the point where at(we formed 5 months ago and I've only been playing bass for 9 months) we are more concerned with just writing matieral that we find pleasing to the ear, stuff that might get us booked in some smaller local clubs. When we decide to put out a full length CD and have numerous live gigs under our belt, we will focus on crafting more complex, diverse songs. The funny thing is the one song I wrote entirely is missing from the web page becasue it is not fully mixed and I think it's our strongest/most exciting tune to date. It will be up shortly.
Thanks for listening.

We found at our first gig that EVERYONE liked the tunes, had a lot of compliments but I heard these two uber-musician types talking about our guitar players solo on one song being too simplistic or some stuff. Musicians are always the a**holes at these shows, very critical. It's like comics, they always bash each other because they're all so insecure.
That being said, music that is too simplistic will only have a limited appeal long term probably. I think our music will get more diverse and rich as we progress.
