I'm playing a snare drum solo for this solo and ensemble fest we have at school. I have a 10x6 Maple snare with a coate emporer and a coated ambassador over clear ambassador. What head should I put on it ?

Well I was wondeirng which would be better off in a concert, auditorium scenario. Which one would project better/more, sound better. The emporer or the ambassador... sorry . Thanks.

What solo is it? I'm not sure (as someone who judges these things locally) that I'd use a 10 x 6 for something like that. Its not really designed to be a concert or rudimental snare drum.

Its called "The Pine Cone Forest" by John S. Pratt. The book is called 14 Modern Contest Solos.
About the snare, I think I'll just keep my emporer for now. Your required to bring your own snare, and 10x6/5 is all I have. I guess I shouldn't worry bout the sound as much as my playing.

Go for the ambassador, youll get better tone out of the smaller drum if you use a thinner head.

Yes, I have that book, and have had many students play out of it. You really don't have a 14" snare drum? What about using a school drum?
Most of the judging sheets I have used allow you to be judged on your sound/tone as well.
