I have been reading around alot and found that most people on here dont like remo pinstripes or aquarian performance ll drumheads. How come?

I think they're alright. They give great tones on low tuned drums.
Most will disagree but if it can happen on my forum it can happen on any set.
nonsense!

bcuz if u dont listn 2 rush and u dnt hav ambasdrs u r a n00b
But seriously, this forum gives great advice, but tends to be a little biased. A lot of people just don't like the tone of them. But if YOU like them, use them!

Yes, they're great for lower tunings. I think they are ok in situations where you need to control overtones, like some mic'ing applications or an especially live room. However, for live generally unmic'ed playing, they will sound dead from 10 feet away from your drums.

i don't think they are perticularly bad, u can get a good low tuning out of the pins, and after u break them in they can sound quite nice. but IMO there are many better heads, so i jumped at the chance to upgrade my pins, now i use coated emps and coated ambs

because we think they sound like crap, what other reason could there be?
I have pins, I bought them before I knew that people didn't like them. Combined with diplomats, they sound great. Although, I haven't tried any alternatives (on my kit, with me tuning) so I haven't really got anything to compare it with. I want to check out Ambs to see how that'll change my sound.

I agree! I can't standit when people go with the "more experienced" drummers on here because they think they know what they're talking about. I think people should have their own veiws. Obviously ask for advice from experienced drummers, but ignor the "followers". :)

I've used Pinstripes. And despite that it was back when I couldn't tune very well at all, I didn't hate them. There are many better heads to choose from with a wider tuning range. But Pinstripes aren't the absolute garbage a lot of people make them out to be.

which head would be better for dampening the srum without using any o rings; the aquarian performance ll drum head or remo pinstripes? i have coated emperors on my toms and hate them!!!!!! they requre too much dampening to get rid of the annoying ring, thats why i want a head that deadens the drum. so which one will do that?

Pinstripes are great for the larger toms and floor toms but when used on smaller toms it can kill a small tom like an 8 or 10".
Metaldrummer616

so would performance ll s do the same thing?

i would go clear g2's when u tune those they are, in my eyes, the best sounding head all around. I don't know how the aquarian heads sound but i would go pinstripe if u want that sort of sound.

I've noticed many people on this forum appear to just take the word of others when they say somethings bad instead of actually going and trying the product in question out.
I personally had pinstripes on my old kit, and to tell you the truth I didn't mind them. I got a nice deep sound that I wanted out of them. The one on my 2nd floor tom (I bought it 2nd hand off eBay. The drum that is, not the head) sounded great, it appeared to be kind of old so maybe that's why. I do agree with Murd though, they do tend to destroy the sound of smaller toms. I completely killed the tone of my old 10" tom, made it sound just dead and flat.

ok so ill propably get pinstripes unless someone can tell anything about the aquarian lls.

so if i get pinstripes what should i put for the resonance side cuz i still have pearl ones for those?

Honestly, I would still recommend coated Emperors for a heavier head. You may hate them, but you just need to tune them correctly. As for resonant side heads, just get clear Ambassadors, or maybe ebony Ambassadors.

ive spent countless hours tuning the emperors differently trying to find that good sound i want but i just cant get the sound i want, theres just way too much ring in them. what kind of sound do u get out of ur coated emperors? maybe i just need more practice on tuning. any tips?

Tune your reso heads higher than your batters, and have your batters fairly low (but not too low). Also, make sure all your lugs are of even tension, if you can.

no pins. learn to tune your emps. countless hours does not mean u mess with it every once in awhile and complain.
new reso = BIG difference.
also, i'd wager you dont play out..or even outside for that matter. there is hardly 'ringing' too much when you need to be heard over other instruments or are outside where there are virtually no bouncy accoustics.

tune your floortoms reso heads higher, to take out the slop.
by design floortoms resonate more than racktoms due to their depth. you might wanna try a 2ply reso head on your floors if all else fails.
