okay, last ngiht I got to thinking. What if I took my old Birchwood tom drum, and cut it down to a 13X5 shell. now if I was to buy and drill all the needed holes, and also re-cut the baring edges, would this sound like a good snare??? or would it sound horrid.?

I think it would sound decent. Maybe try taking a section from the middle of the shell to get around the holes it already has :thumb:

There's no reason why it wouldn't work, as long as you did it correctly.

forget cutting it...get a new bottom hoop and throw on a strainer and make it into a really big snare...

Sorry, I was thinking out loud again. I meant:

Good luck mate! I bet you'll do fine since theres no apparent risks and it takes no skill at all! No way would you mess up and end up throwing away a perfectly good shell. Awaiting pics!

if ur willing to take the chances of possibly screwing it up, then go for it, if you dont need it at all, it woudl be an interseting project.

I don't think it would work considering that a snare must have 8 or 10 lugs and toms only have 6 so there may in lie a problem. your welcome to try but i don't think you will get the head as tight as you should.
