Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with walking jazz bass lines. I know a little bit about it, but not very much, so any help is much appreciated.

Thanks a bunch,

Matt :)

honestly, your best bet would be to use the forums search function (the buttons up top somewhere).

there have been tons of threads about this, and im sure most of those threads would impart more information than forumers weary of typing the same thing many times over, plus there are very jazz-inclined forumers that are no longer around to give you the answers they used to give.

Or just listen to Phil (thats you, right?).

I find these are pretty helpful.

And use this to practice. Just pick a random song and start walking over it.

Walking basslines are in essence, very simple.

Take the chord progression.

Now, play the root note for each chord as it progresses through the song.

Now, play the root note on on the first note whenever the chord starts.

Now, play through whatever scale the chord is in, and "walk" right into the next chord, as it comes into the song.

Boom. Walking bassline.

Of course, it gets MUCH more complex than that, but...well, you get the idea. Research it a little bit.

Actually that is one of the best ways that I have heard it explained.
