My friend brought his Cort Curbow 4FL round today, and it doesn't work. It's second hand and apparently worked for the first day he had it.

Nothing came out of the amps we plug it into (mine and his), so he changed the preamp battery; still nothing.

He opened up the back plate and we had a gander at the electronics; couldn't see any loose wires, it looked fine.

The wierdest thing, however, was my tuner wouldn't pick up any notes from it!

What the hell's wrong with it?

I know this sounds really stupid but you did check the volume was up on the actual bass?

It's an input problem, garunteed. Resolder all the wires connecting the preamp to the input.

Could be the strings went dead. They go silent when they get too old.

ROFL! We twiddled with every knob on it.

Oh... That's not cool. We'll have to check on that too.

Could be. I'll pass that by him.

There were plenty of marks on the fingerboard that match those strings, so I imagine they've been on there a while. Then again, I've had the same strings on my bass for almost a year, and they're alive and kicking. :D

Thanks for the help, folks. :thumb:

Just bring it into a shop. Not everything has to be do it yourself. Bring it into a shop, pay them a couple of bucks and they'll fix, they'll have to waste their time figuring it out instead of you wasting your time.

then you plug it in does it make the Clck noise when the cable meets the metal of the input jack? in that case the cor or the amp is messed up...

if it does make that click noise but the bass dosent play i'd say input.

Aren't those basses active? If they are, it could be that the battery died.

Thats not entirely true. When I bought my Ibanez SR5005, it worked for like a day and then the thing just stopped working. So I bought new strings, new battery (2 actually) and it still didnt work. It maded the crackling/click noise when you plug it in but no sound. It was faulty wires in the battery compartment, or something like that.

yea cause if you're getting noise through the cable you know it must be the bass... if you plug a cable into an ampa nd touch the other end, youll get a buzz

it's weird, but if you want to check the pickups or whatever, hold up headphones to them. i've been able to play my ipoid through my bass, and hear it through my amp. somethin interesting to try, eh?
