Rightnow im currenty using Pro Mark Japenese Oak 5b's with a nylon tip...Im sorta getting sick of the tips breaking off, or the stick taking of the coating on my heads.....Well now im looking at some wood tips, Im looking at perts sig sticks...Is there any benifits to using wood tips??
well for one thers not as many marks on your ride from wood tip sticks as nylon tips. I think thats about it. Wood tips wont fly off. Ive had some flatten a little bit but thats it.

They can still chip off. They also produce darker ride tones

Thats true they do still chip, rather annoying, and as for the darker tones i prefer that so you know what i'm gonna say.
of course they chip. they arent going to last forever. I do like nylon tips but 8a vaters dont come in nylon.

I prefer a wood tip because the tone is generally warmer.

wood tips will last alot long, especially on jap oak sticks, they are great. and u will love peart sigs(notice the "a" in peart) i had a pair for a good year before they broke, excellent sticks

The whole reason i switched to nylon is that they last a lot longer than wood. I've only ever cracked 1 nylon head, as opposed to wood heads, which chipped so often, it wasnt funny.
I definitely prefer the wood sound though.

that's so spooky... I bought the exact same sticks like 2 days ago and I was just telling someone how great they are. Weird.

They don't chip. I have a pair of wooden ones and 3 pairs of (thicker) nylon ones. I prefer the wooden ones, but maybe cos they are thinner... I like heavy sticks but not too heavy.
Any stick will do, as long as your technique is right and you hit correctly it wont matter about the stick/your drums and cymbals (providing they aren't AHEADS) gettin screwed.

Wooden tips are generally warmer sounding, and with regard to cymbals, a bit darker. Nylon, by comparison, makes a brighter sound.
