does anyone have ideas of hi-hat cymbals that sound good when open? I have some Sabian AA's and they are much too heavy to sound decent when played open. most metal drummers i see play open hats while playing double bass, and i would like to know what kinds/brands will sound decent while not being destroyed.

14 inch A Series Mastersounds, I used to have those, they have a great washy sound when played open, very loud too.

not to be foot-in-mouth, but "metal players who play with their hats open" usually have their hats open like not even 1/16"... like just slightly more open than if you put the top hat on w/o screwing the clutch to the rod. try that before buying new hats?

that is how i play, basically, there is no tension on the nut holding the top cymbal, i've been wanting new hats for a while, and i figure while going about the 'research before purchase' stage i'll ask some questions about things i am going to want for cymbals

don't say it, don't say it, don't say it...

"grammar nazi" is someone who is overly anal-retentive about grammar.
"spelling nazi" see above.

the paragon's sound really nice with about a quarter inch spacing and the top hat's felts on slightly loose.

watch/listen to new recordings of tom sawyer when the song goes "the world is, the world is..." the hats sound really nice in that part. peart's not playing dbl bass in that part but that's how the hats sound when they're loose.
