Hey everyone, Im not a guitar noob, just a gigging one, as Ive never gigged before.

I was just wondering in general, what happens between arriving at a place and actually playing, as in set up wise, soundchecking and how it all works, whats the point in all of it. Im basically curious as to how the sound from your amp and pedals or whatever is at a good volume. Also how do the monitors work etc!

Thanks for the replies, Ill probably start playing a few gigs soon and dont want to look like an idiot! Detailed explanations would be awesome. :chug:

wen u arrive u get drunk :chug:

the point of it all is to get the good sound u want, and mixed correctly, everything is miced and goes into the desk on different channells and can be changed and edited, the moniters are for u on stage so u can hear the band/what u want/what u dont want all that kinda crap

It's so you can get a feel for the stage and the sound you'll get before playing for an audience. It also means they can (hopefully) get the balance right on your instruments, so you sound like a decent band instead of an avalaunch of noise.

So have you got any gigs planned yet, Jonno? What kind are you planning to check into?

Dude, head on over to The Jam Session - there are extensive guides there on all this stuff.

Here are a few threads in particular

There was a great check list in there at one stage but I can't find it :(.
