will the G-K 1001rb (head) and a mesa 212http://www.mesaboogie.com/Product_Info/Bass_Cabs/PowerhouseCABS/PHbass2x12-LG.htm (cab) work?

also, will it be loug enough for gigs at a small bar? a big bar? out-doors? will it be loud enough to blend in clearly with the guitar/drums/vocals in all three situations. PLUS, will i still be able to have room(power) to crank it and overpower the guitars?

thanks in advance.

It'll work, and it'll work quite well I'd imagine. 12's thump like no tomorrow. The only draw back being, since the cab is 8 ohms you won't be getting the full 700 watts out of the GK, unless you added another 8 ohm cab to reach full impedance. But you'll still have about 480 watts to play with, and believe me it's still nice and loud. Enjoy.

I'm running a 450W head at about 300W (due to impedence) and it overpowers a VERY loud drummer. (He plays so loud we have to turn up to the point where i need ear plugs for PRACTICE). It's plenty loud with only one cab. So with your setup you should be fine for any small shows (think like 500 and less people).

Any show too big for that setup will most likely have a PA you can run through, so you'd be fine there too.

You should be heard fine, especially if you play with PA support. Head room should be ok.....

If I was you I would look into a schroeder 1212, I'm guessing they're around the price of the mesa and about half the size. I have one and the sound is great and its extremely loud.

Yes.

That'd be loud enough for just about anything.

Unless you're playing massive stadiums and stuff.

Or if he's in the type of band that does not understand "turn down"

Finally, someone else who understands you don't need to be as loud as you can. If I may use an overused phrase...I felt like I was on crazy pills.
