So I'm in New Jersey this whole week (got here last fri) and just got back from seeing Avenue Q on broadway, and plan to see rent on thursday. I'm also playing bass for "A New Brain" for my college's production.

As I was watching, I realized that the role of the bass (in this case, a ****ing sexy 69 jazz) is far different from that of any other form of music. It generally establishes the chord without really branching out, but also doesn't simply reinforce the melody. It's a unique form of music with principles that have influences from many different styles.

Has anyone else played for a musical or is influenced by showtunes styles?

"what's the buzz tell me what's a-happenin'..."

That song owns.

To answer your question, I've never thought of it. It might be fun, I guess.

I've played in the Wiz for a school production.

That was kinda fun.

I am going to try to make pit orchestra for next year's school musical. The pit is always crazy insane.
