Howdy all

Short and sweet.(Yet another fretless question)
Do you have to Epoxy the fretboard no matter what, or only if you intend to use roundwounds.

Just wondering if its entirley necessary or if its done purely for extra protection.

Cheers guys. :thumb:

(Sorry if it belongs in another thread n such)

Only if you intend to use rounds. Even then, it still depends on what wood your fingerboard is made out of. Harder woods like Ebony don't need to be epoxied.

I did my fretless myself, and regardless of strings, the wood was getting a little weird, It'll probably be okay with out some kind of surface application, it's not like the neck is going to crack in half if you don't epoxy it.

Epoxy/poly will protect the neck, yes; but it isn't really necessary. Flatwounds will damage the fretboard little, if at all. The damage from roundwounds is also very small, and shouldn't be a major concern. Epoxy will give you, however, a different tone.

The most important factor of epoxying something is the tone.
