The Other Music forum needs more Uncle Tupelo, so I made this thread.
I will open this thread with a few relevant and possibly bold subjective statements.
Uncle Tupelo > Wilco
Their Punk flavored albums are far greater than their other albums.
No Depression is their finest album.
They recognize the greatness of both Gram Parsons and the Minutemen, and are therefore great.
"New Madrid" is a terrific song.
I've spent some time in Belleville, Illinois. My cousins live there. I feel close to Uncle Tupelo because of this.
etc, discuss.

Yes, it's also where Elvis was born. But their from Belleville, Illinois -- not far from St. Louis, Missouri.

Hey Moon, can you send out "New Madrid"? I usually really like the Country Rock you recommend me. I tried to download No Depression a few days ago but I was far too late, the link was suffocated.

Yea, just give me time to find Anodyne; it's some where around my room.

Uncle Tupelo are one of the best bands ever, and I mean that without a bit of hyperbole. As for your statements:
While I'm a ridiculously huge Wilco fan, in terms of overall impact and collected output, yeah, UT wins. Wilco has had better singular moments though (ie. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot).
Definitely disagree with you there. Their songwriting grew to an unbelievable level on the last two albums, and thus I'd say that is the more powerful era of their music.
Second finest. Anodyne wins hardcore.
905% correct.
It really is. It's even better live.
Wish I could say the same. I'm a southerner, though, so I get the atmosphere pretty throroughly.
I get sort of bugged sometimes, as I really can't find any albums in the same style that match any of the above. They're the tallest mountain.

Wilco > Uncle Tupelo
Just because Summerteeth and YHF are both excellent albums. I must admit the only Uncle Tupelo albums I have are their Anthology and No Depression. I really like UC and need more of their albums but Wilco have created two albums that I just love and UC haven't.
I like both of them. I'm seeing Wilco tomorrow night for free.
