Man, check out their new stuff. The vocals have improved drastically. In fact, when I first heard these colours don't run, I thought it was another band doing a ****ty job of trying to sound like Protest.

The only confusion I have is the label that most people place on this band: Hardcore. I really don't see that as being accurate, although it may be because I have a skewed definition of hardcore. One thing I know for sure is that if there are other bands out there that do sound like PTH, then I want to hear them.

they've been playing and touring for a while.
though things started to pick up for them once they signed to undergorund operations and with the release of this new cd.

the cd is the main reason though because it is just insane.

PTH is the band R&M types like to jerk off and H/E people hate. I personally dislike them a lot.

Edit: I just remembered why: BTBAM, The Fall of Troy, and Glassjaw are all better. Maybe even Dragonforce...maybe.

Oh ok, but there is no comparison between Dragonforce and PTH.

Both are absurdly cheesy, rely on technicality as their selling point, have woefully overwrought and poorly written vocals, and don't deserve the credit given to them on sputnikmusic reviews, so I'd have to say there's a lot to compare even if the overall quality of the bands differs a lot.

Dragonforce is a power metal band. PTH is far from power metal. Power metal is infamous for the cheesy lyrics an technicality. Then again anyone can play hardcore.

Some would argue that PTH is barely even metal.

Some would say barely hardcore. That's not the point. They obvious take influence from metal (power, thrash, metalcore, and hair), hardcore (popcore, metalcore, and post-hardcore), and progressive. You're missing my point. Don't worry about the semantics. Just recognize that there are aesthetic similarities.

i don't think that protest rely on their technicality at all. They write really good music which happens to be technical, sure that adds to it but it's not the main reason for listening to it.

I recorded my first album in my room, with quite decent quality at age 15. That doesn't really mean I'm incredibly awesome or something.

Plus, PTH is alot better now than they used to be. The new album is the only cd they have that's really good. And almost everyone I've talked to agrees with me.

He just can't get over the fact that people like a band he doesn't. He has a point when he said they take from power, thrash and progressive metal as well as post-hardcore and metalcore but he tries to discredit the lyrics for no apparent reason and makes lame uninspired comparisons to bands like CTTS and Hot Cross (then again that's all he ever does).

Not really, no. I Am Dmitri Karamazov and the World is my Father is the best thing they've ever written at it's core but it's hindered by their pubescent immaturity and rody's voice.

But yeah no.

It's really cool to hear the basic progression but they're very evident of the group's youth.

Basically, I map their progress like this:

5th Commandment > Take and Take > Is Anybody There? > Silent Genocide > Asperity of Sin > ACUOS EP > Soft Targets (added to the EP a year later for the re-release, hence why it sounds out of place - it was rush-recorded for a sampler) > Kezia > Fortress blablabla.

The most drastic changes were from the Is Anybody There/Silent Genocide-era hardcore punk songs (Search for the Truth 7") to Asperity of Sin, and then from the EP to Kezia (excluding Soft Targets, which is a great song, but obvious in it's rushed, forced "just because we had to" nature).

illpressureurhinges1

It's still interesting to hear what they were with the EPs and what they have become with Kezia and soon to be Fortress.

That's exactly what I just finished saying, Jesus, reading isn't hard.

The point is that unless you were around when the EP, 7" and compilations dropped, they'll probably be meaningless to you. They're very immature, albeit still enjoyable, but in the end the people still appreciating it are the ones who got to see these songs develop, all before Kezia was solidified. There was nothing quite as exciting as seeing a group of kids evolve like that, and if you missed out on the initial evolution, hindsight is not quite as favourable. That's alls I'm saying.

Yeah probably. I'm really bad at picking apart some words, so I have to rely on what I know conceptually.

My buddy and I have figured most of it out though. Him being a linguistics major (and currently studying for a phonetics exam) really helped.

They're playing it so safe with this album, I think I know why I'm still waiting. All CD copies that were sent out late November were individually watermarked and beeped, which is why it hasn't leaked and probably wont until someone snabs a mastered or retail copy. I think that's why they're holding off on the secure-streams. Makes sense now. I don't mind waiting, really.

That line ****ing rules. I think it's 'protected only BY our skin' though. I noticed that they have a tendancy to play the song a lot faster live from their videos.

yeah it's by, that was a typo.

They usually play faster live, yeah. Makes it more energetic. Moe tends to always start off faster than they'd like though, which I sometimes think is partially to piss the band off. I remember a few years back, the crowd wanted an encore (something the band, Luke in particular, are vehemently opposed to) and so after some bitching by Luke, they were like, "okay, we're going to play the fastest cover of Linoleum you've ever heard" and it really was.

Why are they so opposed to encores? Encores can make a show if they're good.

They want to leave the crowd wanting more. It makes sense.

They did used to play encores though, way, way back when they were just young kids playing a couple shows in town a month.

Reading helps but Sequoia Throne is on MySpace, Bloodmeat is on iTunes Canada and the video can be seen here:http://youtube.com/watch?v=bcNWXDfKMnM

Nothing will leak anytime soon. Promos that have been sent out in CD form were individually watermarked and are easy to trace back to whoever leaks them.

Other people, such as myself, are expected to receive a streamed copy of the album sometime in the near future, though it will be a secure site so expected anti-leaking measures will most likely be taken.

The songs both rule, but they'll rule twice as hard in context. Sequoia Throne especially seems more reliant on the other three parts of the movement.

Hahaha, I was going to be one back but I couldnt because it was you. I have been up since 7...I had work at 8 and got off at 12. From 12 to 4 I was studying for my accounting final (which is enough to make any sane man want to kill himself) and now Im back at work until 8. I have an hour and a half to go before I go into Manhattan with my girlfriend to meet her sister for the first time.

Anyway, how has life been treating you?

I just listened to a bit of Bloodmeat by the way. I like it alot, maybe more than just liked it alot and it was only my first listen...this cd will own so hard if the other tracks are like this.

The ending of the track is better than the first for sure.

I've been told enough and lead to believe that each track is much more enjoyable in context of the whole album. Since it was split into movements, each section should ultimately be its strongest when together.

I'm doing okay I guess. Just finished exams and was hoping to have this album by now, but no complaints overall.

I just got really sick of Blindfolds because of how it was handled live and just in general. With all the delays Kezia saw (seriously, you people waiting for Fortress don't have any idea), they played Blindfolds for what felt like a year before the record even dropped. While they played She Who Mars almost as consistently, it was changed enough in the recording to keep it fresh. Same goes for Plateful, which was the first new cut they played (I still remember how they introduced it: "This is about a little girl in front of a firing squad), but then they gave it a break and the final cut was altered in favour of groove and melody.

Plus, I really don't like how Blindfolds transitions, mostly because it doesn't. The shift to the acoustic part sounds like an accident.

They were thinking it was funny, and as a concept it was. It just wasn't well executed; most notably the first half with the sepia tone. It's just bizarre.

But the second half in colour is awesome IMO.

How is it random? They're all big musical fans and they thought the concept would be quirky enough to be funny. They just overdid it with the weird narrative at the start. Had it just been them performing in monkey suits it would have been awesome.

I'm sure she wants to have a career. With Kezia, they had an open call for a female singer and in the end they went with Jadae, who Rody knew prior to recording. Now I think she's used this to get her foot in the door and get an album out, which she has.

There was a need for character based vocals on Kezia. Fortress is not character based, even though there is obviously a focus on certain mythological and historical characters.

They're pretty bad quality but it's the best I could find.

Also I have a download link for Bloodmeat if you want it, until it becomes available on iTunes.

Check your rep.

edit: It's good quality, but a bit low on volume. You just have to turn it up and it'll be sweet.

I know. I was saying that there's no way that they wouldn't still play it since the video just came out now.

They also play the Dissentience if I'm not mistaken. Maybe they'll re-add the Goddess tracks, but they haven't played those since last May to my knowledge, which was the first time they played them.

I want to see them live so bad. But they don't even come within an hour driving range until late May... I guess I'll just have to wait til then.

Lucky. Just once would make me extremely happy. And now I have to wait til May. I just hope I'm not busy that day.

I know they want to do out of North America stuff a lot, it's just hard because they aren't really big enough to be able to afford it.

The last time they came to Oregon they played in Bend of all places...

I have to wait until March to see them, but it will be worth it.

I just wish they'd stop playing with horrible bands, but they're big on the "bands dont have to fit together to play together" tours so I guess it'll never end. I'm not even bothering with their current tour because of how awful TDWP and Silverstein are.

I saw them in AZ once, but that was the show right after the guitar player got arrested so they had to play a man short. They also shortened their set. And played with Trivium.

damn, burn son

I was pissed because the only reason that I went to the show was to see them (and The Sword too, I guess, but just as I had expected, they were boring as ****) and was pissed when they came out and announced that he had got busted at the border.

Am I the only one that kinda like Calculated Use of Sound better than Kezia, besides the quality? I don't what it is about it. I just like it better. I noticed a lot of recurring licks at parts on Kezia that were definitely from CUoS. Wow can't wait for Fortress. I'll get a leak asap but I'll also buy the CD. They have so many little nuances in there music taht I would a CD quality version to hear everything.

These Silhouettes are a shitty metalcore/post-hardcore band, but they put on a good live show. They're your typical Underoath + Southern **** band.

Yeah, I know of one Swedish fan, except myself. My brother, since I introduced them to him.

I'm a huge fan too! And FatPete too! So basically a majority of the Swedes on MX like PTH, which of course means that a majority of all Swedes like PTH, since we represent the average population. So that's atleast 5 million people (possibly more) in Sweden who would want to go and see them play.

I had some vague memory that you were a fan, but I had no idea about FatPete.

It would be quite cool if they held a concert for 5 million Swedes. Although it would be kind of hard to get close to the scene.

Ok, as usual, I am a bit late here. I finally got around to listening to Kezia, after downloading it last week. I really enjoyed it. I like that they are playing heavy intricate music and the singer is good enough to put kick@$$ melodies over it, something I had trouble doing in my old band. I ended up screaming a lot because with the more intricate stuff, it was more difficult to put a melody over it. Anyways, he has a really good voice as well. They are one of my new favorite bands.
