Here's my story:
I was in a band for about 6 months with two guitar players, one who sang, a bass and a guy that recorded. I played the drums. We split up because that guy who had the recording studio couldn't make the majority of the rehersals. Soon afterward, The two guitarist started a new band, but instead of taking in me as a drummer, they took in the recording guy, who can play the drums but really sucks. Anyway, im starting a band now and im getting so stuff to record with. I have a mixingboard and software picked out. Does anybody have any advise on witch mics i should get? (Im not looking for anything expensive, im just starting out)

Thanks.

A couple Shure SM57's (around $150 CDN) would do you nicely. They work for almost anything and are cheap. If you're looking for a vocal mic, I'd say Audio Technica 2020 (which sits at around $200 CDN). If you want something for a kick drum or bass amp, go with an D112, or a Shure Beta 52A (which sits at about $320 CDN). I'm not sure about your definition of cheap, but considering there are mics that costs thousands, I'd put these on the cheap end of pro recording gear.

Yep, a few Shure SM57s, for miking guitars, snare and hi hats would be good, you can't go wrong with these mics.

You might want to get a few overhead mics for the toms and cymbals, I tend to use 2 AKG C1000s for the overheads. These aren't too bad for recording vocals either.
