View Full Version : Is this what an expression pedal is for? (switching solos with another guitarist)

so I've got a gig coming up where I trade off rhythm/solos with another guitarist. I want our volumes to change accordingly so the soloing is always more prominent. Will an expression pedal let me do this? I've always been kinda unclear as to what an expression pedal actually does. Or is there something else I should try and get? Thanks!

i believe expression pedals are mostly for keyboards and stuff

get a volume pedal

even though i'm pretty sure they're the same things with different names used for different instruments.

Expression pedals are for MIDI. You can use an expression pedal to control the setting of any parameter that you could control with MIDI.

If you want something to be able to control your volume with. Then just use a volume pedal, or maybe even your guitars own volume knob.

switching my guitar's own volume knob down seems to thin out the tone significantly, so I'll get a volume pedal. Thanks Aes, king of all things such as this.

That would also happen with a volume pedal. The thinning out of the tone, I mean.

But not if you run the volume pedal in the amps FX loop.
