What is your opinion on this? Do you think it could work or is it a terrible idea? discuss.

Slipknot, Mushroomhead and Spiineshank use it.
Fear Factory could be put under this one too.
You decide if it works out, it's been done as you see.
If it works out.
Most of the time not (imo)

I dont like it. The only bands I can think of that has a DJ is Slipknot, Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit. Im sure there are a few others, but based on these 3 bands, its not my thing.

A turntable is exactly the same as any other instrument. It takes a competent musician with a definite vision to use it properly.
Sadly, the only metal bands I know of right now that use a DJ... don't use it properly.
Not that it can't be done, though.

Incubus and Deftones use it well. Very well, even though it's not metal.

Sucks.
the Lostprophets do it ok, but their later stuff has been kinda pop-punkish rather than nu-metal.

I like Incubus but I don't count it as metal, personally.
Still, all this talk has me thinking I should talk to a DJ sometime in the future and collaborate on a metal project with DJing and sampling.
I see that there's not a lot of praise for the idea around here, but as I said, you really need to realize it's like any other music. You just need to find somebody who can really make it work.
I was actually think about this today. I agree that turntables are just as respectable as other instruments in a band. I also agree that there really isn't any metal band that really showcases the use of turntables, which I would personally be interested in seeing.

i actually think there's quite a lot of skill to DJing in general, and being able to mix tracks together and get them to fit really well. personally, i can't do it whatsoever, but my geogprahy teacher and a boy in my geography class can both do it fairly well.

I don't really think they were ever nu-metal, nor have they ever been pop-punky. I think they went from being an almost post-hardcore type band to an "alternative rock" band.

Coming up, the Trooper drum and bass style.

I agree, after playing around on some turntables at Guitar Center, it seems like a pretty difficult instrument to learn.

I think Deftones has been using turntable and sampling quite well in their music..

/wants a lot.
seriously, if it's a remix you should be able to post the link here on MX, IMO.

I can think of good DJ's. I can think of good metal. Yet, to my knowledge and history with music, there has never been a great integration of the two. I've heard accessible/catchy like Slipknot and Lost Prophets, but nothing I'd be proud to know and like.
I guess Fear Factory comes to mind, but they do sampling, not that much scratching. Even then, they've kind of dropped the sampling part a little.

I forgot Lostprophets... why does their singer suck so bad... they'd be so good...

if the singer was better, i'd love them. as it is, they're bearable.

I think if we're going to see a metal band properly use a DJ, it'll be someone similar to The Black Mages.

Incubus' DJ is pretty damn good.
I like the Deftones' use of atmosphere using the turntables.
And...eh it's okay if it's treated as an instrument or something to compliment the overall sound with.

I don't mind the lostpophets vocalist. Just not so keen on the whole package overall, bar a few songs.

I like the lostprophets singer; they're one of the few bands where I'm not hardcore into them, but I can turn my playlist to any random song by them and most likely like it.
