I live in MN and have heard that this is a great school and am considering attending myself. I know a few people that have gone and one of my friends who I work with knows the head of the percussion department, Gordy Knutsen, pretty well.

oh really? that is cool. I am just really stressing about which music school will give me the best career path and most oppurtunities in the music world. that is why I am inquiring about it. To me all the music school's websites like MI, L.A. music academy, Berklee, atlanta institute of music, etc. have all pretty much said the same thing. So it is very frustrating not knowing which would be best suited for me.

Anybody else have this problem or any advice on music school?

to tell you the truth i dont think its worth it...Ive heard a lot of negative things about them. I think it depends if you are wanting to play in prestigous things like orchestras that makes people go there. but damn its $30,000 dollars a ****ing semester. screw that. and just to let you know Ive talked to about 10 people from there on the phone and they have been very unhelpful and rude. I talked to the dean of percussion and he was an ***. all the other places ive talked to have been helpful and knew what they were talking about.

I was trying to figure out what some of the jobs that drummers get after leaving Berklee and noone could find someone for me to talk to about it. they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about. if you ask me all you pay for is the damn instructors sallary and the Berklee name...so what if dave weckl is teaching you or so what about the greatest jazz drummer went there 20 years ago. screw them for making you feel like a number and not focusing on what really counts, us, and screw them for making us pay a ridiculuos amount just because of their name.
:smoke:

p.s.: oh but by the way i like that pic of Mike Portnoy, my favorite drummer of all time, and that is who I am trying to become as good as, anyone have any suggestions about the path to take to play drums like him, like what lessons and practice tips?

I too live in MN and I went to check them out when they had their open house. the place itself is pretty nice and cool, but the teachers there are a little sketchy and I dont think they are very knowledgeable. But you should also check out Columbia College in Chicago. They got a cool program there.
