Who cares if they haven't brought anything new, it's not always about complete originality, i daresay most of the music you listen to doesn't bring anything "new to music" just because it doesn't rework the entire genre doesn't mean it's any less worthy of attention.
I personally think he's an amazing lyricist, one of those people where i listen and just think "yeah that's how it is" a phenomenal band, they are however not a patch on the Libertines.

Yeah, most musicians just copy a little of everything they like, because thats what people like to hear. I dont know about you, but I'm not always in the mood for something that sounds completely different.

God I hate the media. It's not the band's fault that they're being lauded as the "next big thing", they're just being carried along on a wave of uber-hype that's impossible for them to live up to.
I sincerely think that everyone in the music media (excluding everyone at NME) should be ****ed and burned. Let the music be heard and don't tell people what to like.

They're already arrogant as it is, when collecting their NME award for best british band the singer said "who else was going to be best british band you know?", which sounds like he's implying that there are no decent bands in Britain at the moment. Also, I heard that at a nightclub people were cleared from some sofas so they could sit down and drink wine

I've never heard of them before... Then again, I had never heard of Craig David when he was up at the top in the UK in 2000 with "Fill Me In."
Then what do you know... a year later or so he's big in the US. I thought it was old because I knew a ton of people from England but it was new to everyone else over here in the States.
If I was smart, I'd follow the music in the UK and get into promoting stuff like that in the US. :thumb:

Exactly I still get into arguments about that all the time i tend to go on the attitude
for example Johnny Cash was punk way before there was punk (I hate the way everyone is told now, and thus thinks that johnny cash is genius. Music media is all wrapped up in the bands of the time and always will be, plus it's also SUBJECTIVE, i wouldn't let Black Sabbath anywhere NEAR my top 100 British list but then i'd get some retard having a pop at me just for that
I think it needs pointing out that i am yet to meet ANYONE who buys an album just because everyone else has bought it, it's just pointless. Has it occured to a lot of you that perhaps people buy the record (god forbid) because they actually like it? Because they can relate to it? Because it's lyrically superb? Because it's catchy?
Jesus, pull your heads out of your arses, people like whatever and as i said i'm yet to meet anyone who buys an album just because Q/Kerrang/NME/whoever tells them to. I am ****ing SICK of people bitching on this band just because they're popular, so **** loads of bands are popular, if i started bitching on The Beatles just because they're massive then people would be in uproar. Sure if you don't like the music that's fine but to bitch about them saying that just because they're popular and that people only like them because they're told to is a load of bollocks.

You really don't understand much of the human condition. It is an inherit and physiological human trait to like, enjoy, and purchase substances, media, and entertainment that fall into certain catagories of contemporary significance. It is perfectly logical to assume that because a band is over-produced and hyped to a rather large degree that the band will be more popular with the mainstream.
Even so, the way the international music industry works now, an artist doesn't really have to have large record sales to cover them financially. The music industry now is leaning more towards corporate ties and big buisness from large chains of major studios and record labels. So a band that isn't really that entertaining can easily become successful given enough financial backing from corporate sponsors, who basically profit from the "idea" of the band being successful in the mainstream.
So to sum up, it is very logical to assume that because a band is supported largely by corporate media, that they will be popular. Buying and selling music really isn't about the material, it's about the appeal and situation with the corporations of record labels and major studios.
I think it needs pointing out that i am yet to meet ANYONE who buys an album just because everyone else has bought it
Jesus, pull your heads out of your arses

I agree with one bit, who gives a rats if a bands popular, more power to them, they came along at the right time. As for the rest of you're post, you're a fool.
Of course lots of people buy albums on recommendations you tool. I've done it lots of times as has probably everybody (infact i will limit this to mostly those who have jobs, thus if you've wasted a little on a dodge album its not the end of the world). But almost everybody buys albums on recommendations at some stage, be they from a friend or a review you idiot. Sorry for the constant you're an idiot like comments but you set the tone with your post. :chug:
