Everything about that instrument is spectacular (except for the fact that it's a fiver, but that's subjective). I would love to own one, but I'd literally have to start selling drugs/pimping to earn that kind of cash.

That's a very nice looking bass. Trust me when I say this though, they're not worth the price Alembic charges. The depreciation on Alembics are rediculous. Better off buying a used one.:thumb:

I actually like that (apart from its a 5) but i think all the knobs on it wrecks it

The problem with Alembics is that I'll probably never find a used 6 string one that I want. People always choose the worst body shapes.

That body shape right there is one of my favorites from Alembic.

I prefer something a tad bit more traditional... I don't like the little cut out bit at the bottom/end of the body.

There was a more traditional one that was my other favorite, but I don't remember the name.

I'd like it more if the knobs didn't seem arbitrarily places, and didn't look so cheap. I love that body shape though.

I don't think there's too many... they just look thrown on there. And I don't like that plastic style of knobs either.

I love coco bolo wood.
The bass is nice, but there are just far too many knobs, which makes it look ridiculous, and the Heart Omega carving on the bottom is just ugly, and, in my opinion, just ruins the overall attractiveness of the bass.

I dont like it, not enough strings, crappy inlay on the headstock, and I dont like the way they use a billion laminates for the body. Give me a Conklin 10 anyday.

An anti-hum pickup. Don't know how it works, but it does. All those knobs got jobs. Thats what make Series II electronics special and expensive. They make some unique sounds.

I still can't believe that Alembic still uses those crappy plastic knobs. If i were paying $20,000 for a bass, it better have good looking knobs.

I would, I am always fooling with my tone. Some day I'll be ordering winters custom EQ's for all of my basses.

Anti-hum pickup eh? Interesting.
I really have trouble believing that anyone would use that many controls.

Yeah, some Alembics have controls for changing the signal from mono to stereo, controlling LEDs,Q-filters for both pickups... basically, anything you can think of, they'll give you.. except for a maple fretboard.

:chug:
The thing between the pickups is a dummy coil that has no output. It's there so the single-coil pickups don't hum.

Yea, so many knobs makes it look like a novelty I reckon.
But they all have a function, so I guess that negates the "novelty effect".
Alembics have always relied heavily on their electronics. It's not that they don't use excellent woods, they do, but most of the tone for them is in the elecronics. They use brass bridges that are heavy, so as to stop the vibration of the wood interfering too much and allowing those incredible electronics to speak for themselves.

I've considered putting Alembic pickups in my Warwick a few times. Due to the fact that they literally cost more than my bass (which was $850), I haven't been able to justify it.
Maybe I'll check Ebay...

123.
I would feel like a moron. When you spend $1500 or so on a bass and you are a serious musician, it is pretty cool. Like "woah, you have a sweet guitar", you must be seriously.
That coolness goes away when you have a bass so expensive that you could have bought a car for the price.

^^ true, but even though I'd never even consider buying it, I'd kill to try it out. That looks soooo sweet. And just imagine what instant tonal options you'd have with all the knobs.

TRY and tell me that isn't the best tone you've ever heard.
that's your opinion. So i'm not trying to tell you that it's not the best tone i've ever heard. I AM TELLING YOU that it's not the best tone i've ever heard(tone is subjective) and far from it to be entirely honest. And that tone change he gets from twisting that knob leaves a lot to be desired(to my ears anyways, yours are different of course). I can honestly say i hate it. Please stop trying to force your opinion on people like it's a fact. you do that a lot. it's kind of immature. "sheehan is the best, alembics pwn you." Okay, you like sheehan and you like alembics, it doesn't mean everybody likes them and has the same taste as you. I'm really not tryign to be a douche, but it's what I've noticed. we all have different opinions, it's somethign you'll have to deal with.

Alembic always choses exceptionally pretty wood and then totally screws it over with a tacky gloss.
Akira
03-08-2006, 02:00 PM
Yeah, because it's so important that people think you're cool.
That's not the point. The point is that any sane person would look at spending $20,000 on a guitar as stupid as wasteful. I refuse to believe their is any way that an Alembic is worth the price new. Have you ever noticed how cheap you can find a used Alembic? You are paying for an "Alembic" bass, not necesarily a well-priced bass. So who cares about looking cool? Someone who blows 20 grand on a guitar.
