View Full Version : What's replacing my Grind 6er. Here it is!!

NavyBass

I found I'm not really using the high C string much on the 6er, but I am using the low B string quite a bit. I was in the music store the other day just looking around and ran across something I just couldn't pass up, and it would be able to replace the Grind 6er just fine until my Winters Custom 6er is finished.

Now for the deal. I bought it BRAND NEW. It only cost me $799.00 with hardshell case. It's made in USA, not overseas. It plays like a dream and has restored my faith in the company. The reason I say that is because, if you all remember, I said on all my other ones, the active electronics used to hum, well this one is dead quiet.

Here it is.

Not bad at all. It's a bit wide, but not uncomfortable at all. It's a tad bit narrower than the Grind 6er.

Technically, the only one I have left is the Peavey Unity Series Dyna Bass. I think someone was interested in that one, but until they give me a solid yes, it's still up for sale. Wait, that was you.

The Marcus Miller, Grind 6er, and 69 Fender Jazz are all on hold.

Thanks. It's just a bass. Even though I own an Alembic, I still don't think they're worth the price Alembic charges for them brand new. Used prices are more reflective of their value.

I already cut the neck and fretboard for a 6er. Besides, right now I can get by with a 5er. I'm still not giving up on 6ers, just putting it on hold until mine is done.

Also, I am Winters Custom. I'm making it for myself.

Actually, I think that came from thelowsoundofbass weird combination with his signature. He practically said "Who's getting that bass? lowsound".

I think so anyway... BV apparently has been short on bass-buying cash. Either that, or he is saving up.

I just saw it....

It's a very considerable price really, I thought you were going to surprise the hell out of me with a $2000-ish quote. The only thing I'm not certain about is the body shape =S, it was the most appealing one (for me), but that doesn't mean I like it (I'm not insulting you, your work, or anything, it's just my personal taste). Do you have anything a bit more... classy?

What would you consider classy? The reason I ask is it's different for everyone. Some people consider a Jazz Bass classy, while others think an Alembic Series I is classy.

Something not so.... extravagant.

This are my personal favorite shapes for bass:
http://www.guitar24.de/foto/G6073.jpg
Gretsch Electrone Bass

Rickenbackers

http://www.schecterguitars.com/imgs/custom5_nat.jpg
Shecter Elite Custom Bass 5

http://www.guitarsatbmusic.com.au/schecter/basses/baron/baron_h_sm.jpg
Schecter Baron-H

Kind-off like that. I like body shapes of guitars of the 70's, but not the usual Fender/Ibanez-ish look (Double cut very standard, 3 knobs, less than 24 frets, and **** like that)

And how much would it increase if I change the top wood from Koa to Figured Koa?

NavyBass
03-03-2006, 10:34 PM
Figured Koa is expensive. It could be $100 to $150 difference depending on the figuring.

I actually can't copy a Ric, it's actually patent infringement. I can't make one that remotely looks like a Ric because of that. They hold all rights to the cresting wave body.

As far as hollow bodied arch tops like the Gretsch, I'm not tooled up to do an arch top. I could carve one by hand, but that would be very expensive.

You didn't like the Bass 1, Dakota, or Pharoah body shapes?

I am actually looking for a semi-hollow body, and thought you were going to have some of them there.

I am actually digging the cygne look after looking at it for a while. It's growing on me. Specially with the figured Koa.... would the figured walnut (one of my favorites) be more expensive? or would it be cheaper?
