HAHAHAHAHA
The Boston Herald ran a similar story about that like a year ago in Boston.
This is like how Negativland sells bumper stickers that say "Car Bomb."
My mom saw a "this bike is a pipe bomb" sticker on a bike, and thought it was really cool. I then explained to her what the band was, and even though she has no interest in folk punk, she still wants the sticker.

The sentence had better be the burden of having to go to the store and buy a new bike with money given to him by the city government.

Haha. Lame. This just shows what a big impact censorship has on our society.
"Omg pipe bomb! 911!"
Wonder if anyone would care if I wrote "SHOE BOMB" on my shoe.

Censorship? Not at all. It was more of an overreaction and police stupidity. If it was censorship they would ban the use of the stickers or even the utterance of the band's name. All they said was "be careful next time"
They should pay for a replacement bike.

Six months in jail for putting a sticker on a bike, showing support for a band he likes? To put it bluntly, that's bull****.

We were discussing this on Soulseek last night. It seems like the cops made themselves look like idiots, so they were just searching for something to charge this innocent kid with. It really is ridiculous.

It's not fair beause nothing rhymes with cop, so we can't make cool slogan like "Killa Commie For Mommy" Without sounding totally gay.

Yeah, I'm not saying that the kid should be charged or anything, and the authorities definitely overreacted to an insane degree, and it's not like a terrorist would actually put on a sticker like that. I'll give you all that. But you have to give me the fact that it's probably just not a good idea to put a sticker like that on your bike.

It's a good idea if you want a cool looking bike and then if the cops go nuts again, HEY PRESTO! You're instantly a punk rock hero.

To take the other side…. If you're a cop and don't know anything about music or anything about music that’s not on the radio, you'd have to think that they would have to do something.. They don't have to destroy the bike, but they should be cautious of things that say bomb on them. Yes even shoe bombs.. At airports you'll be questioned a lot I would guess.

a while ago i thought to myself "lol, what if someone put this on their bike, and the police thought that the bike was really a pipe bomb". and it really happened.

just imagine how much worse it would have looked if it was a bomb and some cops saw it and just said it was a band and then loads of people died.

they have to follow out all suspicians though. otherwise people die. They handled the situation wrongly granted and they should have replaced the bike but if they believed there was a bomb inside the bike it should have been investigated.
The only time I heard of cops in my area over reacting to bikes was at a critical mass ride a few years back. They were stopped, some kid was told to get off his bike, when asking why, the cop pepper sprayed him in the face. 3 guys were arrested and their bikes taken away.
Best part is, some smart rider happend to have a camera:
