So I went to the first group of "hi hat quarter note" exercises, and have been playing them with the following foot pattern, basically a samba:

|XX|1e+a2e+a3e+a4e+a|
|BD|o--oo--oo--oo--o|
|HF|--x---x---x---x-|

Combined with the hihat/snare combinations in the book, (moving the hi hat to the ride bell for a cool sound), the combined examples look like this, for example:

|XX|1e+a2e+a3e+a4e+a|
|RB|x---x---x---x---|
|SD|--o--o-----o--o-|
|BD|o--oo--oo--oo--o|
|HF|--x---x---x---x-|

Sounds real good, and it got me working on my four way coordination. You can go through all of the examples no those pages with this foot pattern. Thoughts?

nice, very good for what the time you've been playing, I at first misunderstood what Latham was writing and played a clave pattern underneath it, and I must admit it went better than I expected.
I don't have that many problems with foot patterns (revolving every quarter note) since Minnemann's book, especially not with the Samba pattern, because it is very similar to the second system RLLR.
